woo .. I actually tried that teeny .. oh cool trick .. I didnt know this .. but its not enough..

oh and update virus pattern .. run virus scan .. and adware and spybot and hijackthis ..

well if some hotkey program has been installed or something it could be interferring with space key.. gotta admit though I'm currently stalling time until someone locates the real trouble
Like in the troubles thread ms. nataku mentioned dvd player troubles aswell.. new codecs installed? could be some weird player is running in the background.

and honestly i dont think it's codecs or any programs. i think i accidentally activated a a button that enabled the spacebar to control to mute thing.. like a shortcut of some sort. but i dunno...

I would say it's some hidden programm afterall or maybe some hacker activity..
Things to do if not already done..

1 set firwall to max security(without blocking internet acces or worse :P)
2 run virusscan(with updated virus list)
3 run ad-aware adware ans malwaware scan (from lavasoft)
4 run spybot S&D (for in depth ifo bout this one enter msn and come to me or teeny)
5 after all that and having repaired any problems Reinstall keyboard driver and soundcard driver
(from the win xp cd or get the newest drivers from the manufacurer on the internet)

This should do the trick.. 90% of all times anyways...
If no result, then you will have to return to a repairpoint in windows from before the problem..

urgent help required

"Open with" from my right-click menu- when i try to open a file - has disappeared. Any idea how I can get it back?
I can't find anything relevant on the net

I think i might have to make changes on the registry but perhaps there's a way to restore the original list?

well I don't have the actually solution yet, but looking for it. I remember back in win 98 days one could press shift down and rightclick the file and then open with would reappear. Don't know for sure if that solution is still implemented.

Probably because it's been turned off.
1. Open RegEdit
2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell
3. Add a new Key named "OpenWith" by right clicking the "Shell" Key and selecting new
4. Set the (Default) to "Open With..."
5. Add a new Key named "Command" by right clicking the "OpenWith" Key and selecting new
6. Set the (Default) to "C:\Windows\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1", C:\ being your Windows drive. You must enter the "OpenAs_RunDLL %1" exactly this way.

The solution I know is to right click on "My Computer" and pick properties. Go to the hardware tab and press something "settings". It's the key to the right in the middle of the screen.
Then you can locate the two devices and either right click them and chose update (if you have a disc or similar), or do what I normally do and delete the devices. Windows should be able to locate both after a reboot or right after deleting them.

If I'm correct windows xp should locate them first thing when you reboot.
It'll install either windows included drivers or if you know the soundcard brand and type you can download drivers from the manufactors website. Or install from a drivers disc if you have one.

99% sure that it will work out just fine with deleting the drivers in there. And I hope that if I am wrong that people knowing better would have corrected me by now.. lol.

Nataku, Teeny is right, though keep the xp-install cd athand
windows will detect the keyboard as new hardware at reboot
and also the soundcard will be detected as new hardware(go get latest driver from the manufacturer website if available )

Oh .. I would like to hear more about this .. because I've never done this .. I just wonder .. because before you can enter XP you have to type password .. when is this detecting happened?

i'm sure it's being detected before entering (maybe like a generic keyboard), so you could type the password, and again in windoz (as a specific type of kb you have)

Well i don't have to type a password to enter xp, so don't know when the logon screen occurs. From adding a new device though it normally gets detected before the user interface starts. With usb plugins sometimes when loading the desktop. But for a keyboard I'm pretty sure it's still safe to delete and load.

Keyboard and mouse are always detected by bios before even loading the user interface (windows or any other) try starting your pc with keyboard unplugged in most cases it wont even startup at all
so yes indeed a generic driver is used which is imbedded in the bios

:edit: mouse drivers are not loaded but port settings are set the driver usualy comes with the interface

okay thanks .. well I have another question ..

what is the keyboard driver for then? ( I mean the one said to remove and re-install) .. I saw my win2k also have this properties where you can update the driver.
