For all the people who are good with VLC media player, please help me if you can.
I never had a problem with the program EVER, until today. Whenever I open a file - *any* file, I get the stupid Windows pop-up saying that there is some error with VLC player and it needs to shut down. Basically whenever I open something with it, it decides to be an ass. I checked on their forum but I didn't find anyone with my problem or anything that could possibly help me. I wanted to re-install it with a different language, but after doing that I still had the same language... but that's not the problem obviously, it's just that the errors occured after that new install. I tried re-installing but it still gives me errors. Any help? |

queenie : did you uninstall it before reinstalling it ? or did you install it over the existing installation ? [i.e. try to perform a repair ?]
also, which version are you using ? |

Then I tried re-installing again, and this time I first manually uninstalled the exisiting version and installed the new one. I did the same thing one more time as I was still getting errors. Quote:

Either run the shortcut that says "Reset VLC defaults and quit" from the start menu or run this on the command line ("Start", then "Run") toward your VLC installation: "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --reset-config --reset-plugins-cache --save-config vlc:quit" (without the quotes) HTH |

- First, configure the Windows Explorer to show hidden files. - Click on the Start button and select "Run". - Type in "%APPDATA%\vlc", without the quotes, and hit Enter. - Now you shold see one folder "cache" and one file "vlcrc". - Delete these folders & files, they'll we be recreated when VLC starts. - Run the "Reset VLC defaults and quit" from the start menu again. If this doesn't work either, consider downgrading VLC: As suggested here, sometimes older versions are more stable than newer ones. Uninstall your current version, reboot, and try the older version. You can find 0.8.4a here or here. Good luck |

midori what would you like to know about iso files ?
what i know about them is that theyre usually cd images of programs. if you use a burner like nero, you can burn the iso image to cd and use the cd as if it was an original of the program. |

Daemon Tools are free for download. Search on www.download.com and you shall find - Another way of "checking what's in the iso" is by installing WinRAR. It can open and use .iso-files. I dunno if the built in zip-program in WinXP deals with .iso-files. I prefer WinRAR anyways. You should be able to find an annoying trial - which you can use forever - on www.download.com. Hehehe. |

You may get rid of the problem with 'testdisk'. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk In most cases it can repair such things. |

This will probably be impossible to sort out, but I'll give it a go anyway (nothing to lose, right) The thing is, one of my harddrives is not being recognized by my computer. It was fine until my dad had to remove something inside my computer that had melted (...long story) and when he put it back in, it did not work anymore. The harddrive isn't damaged at all and it works perfectly fine on my father's computer, but not mine. Any ways I can fix it, or is it just doomed?

1. Jumpers: last one on the cable = Master, the other = Slave 2. Check the IDE - cable: Steal daddies cable and try it. If it's o.k. then you need only a new cable 3. Does the BIOS recognize it? If yes, then you have only to look into the drive manager of your system administration 4. Check, if pins are o.k., especially those on board, if the power cable is firmly attached. |

Queenie - When that thingie in your computer melted, could it have damaged the IDE-cable that connects your harddrive to the motherboard? Or perhaps it's even the cable from the PSU. However if you've tried different cables then I have no idea.
