Eurovision 2005

Well, I saw forre opened one of those on the Russian forum, so i thought I'd start this one here..... as this year I finally have a reason to watch Eurovision from patriotic stand point, ha ha ha, Bulgaria is participating for a first time.

Here is about BG: from reading the online bulgarian news, i found out there are now 12 finalists, and the one holding the first place after lots of people have voted is this: http://www.bulgariancds.com/cgi-bin/...d=791&type=wma (tiny bit of the song) ... and guess what, it is CHALGA i didint expect anything LESS! Sofi Marinova is one of the 'veteran' chalga singers ... .and a REALLY uglly one as well, but as ANY gypsy, the girl can sing. The guy accompaning her is Slavi, who some of you big t.A.T.u. fans have seen in those 'Tatu in Bulgaria' videos (the tall bald guy, host of the 'Slavi Show', where tatu performed= lipsynched 2 songs) He, if you ask me, is a horrible singer, but never the less is very popular in bulgaria as an actor, tv host, singer, etc - all kinds of entertainment....

...anyways, that song they are proposing, "Edinstveni" = "The only ones" is already in trouble, as it was released on Sofi Marinova's last album, which was out in September of 2004 ... so, I wonder if they will allow it for the contest... anyway... opppppppppppppa, and viva chalga!

For those, who want to have an insight on the Russian selection, there's a place to check for the songs.
1. Go to http://www.eurovision-russia.com/index.htm
2. Choose National selections (left) => a map with the flags will appear.
3. Choose Russian flag => a chart with the semi-finalists will appear.
4. Click on the songs to download.

Sweden have some veterans this year. Veterans of stage and of Eurovision. Among the "celebrities" there are:
1. Ruslana (guest artist)
2. Alcazar (contender)
3. Body Without Organs (contender). Another group of Alexander Bard, who had an enough successful career with his previous groups Army Of Lovers and Vacuum.

According to the critics, Alcazar has all chances to advance to the National final.

P.S. coolie, I saw you browsing the Russian thread, so I wanderred how long time it will take for you to start the English one. Hi-hi ... today, you are sooooo predictible! Thanks for the thread though.

thank you

well, I listened to the BG file couple of times, and hmmm, I think this is the begining of the song or something, that website always choses such weird parts of the song, so i hope it does get a bit more exciting ... otherwise it will put people to sleeeeeeeeeep

I will try harder to find a full verion of the song

so forre, you are a 'specialist' on the Eurovision, if the song was released on an album in September of 2004, does this make it 'un-usable' for the contest by the rules?

#2 by the popular vote in Bulgaria is a guy who lived in my neighbourhood and went to my school (same age as me) - his name is Vladi, but in the BG music world he is known as 'Grafa' I must say, he isnt one of my favourites!

for Sweden, noooooooooo, the X-Army of Lovers HAS to win!!! go go forre and vote for them!

Why a "specialist"? Actually, I know a lot about this crappy contest and I really enjoy it as 1. It's a competition (love sports). 2. New crasy songs every year from all over Europe.

If the song was already released in Sptember 2004, it will be disqualified. I wonder why countries announce such songs generally. None at Bulgarian TV has ever read the rules or what? Strange.

The it should say - a specialist without any "....".
Anyway, we'll see how the story will develop but the earlier BG gets to know about the non-qualification of their entry, the better. Normally, the country has a chance to send another song instead.

well, I dont understand, the news aknowlwdge that the rules dont permit songs released before Oct 2004, so why arent BNT (the national television) seeing the potential problem?

p.s. and when is the pre-selection? you mean for sweden?

ok. someone better explain this to me.... now each country will choose a finalist ... but some countries are participating in the Eurovision final for sure and some arent? there is Eurovision semi-final? excuse my ignorance ... if so, Bulgaria might not even make it to the final, as I know for sure it wouldnt be one of the sure finalists.

New rules were introduced last year. Before we had relegation system and the countries, that didn't get enough points couldn't simply make it to the contest and had to stay over for 2 years. With the new system, all countries have a chance to compete but since the broadcasting time is limited and the limit is 3 hours for one night - the semi-final has been introduced.

thanks forre.

and i told you the barberian bulgras will figure out a way to 'FIX' the problem .... googled older BG news to find out this: "Официалното разрешение на дирекция "Авторско право" на Министерството на културата за неговото излизане е издадено през месец ноември 2004 г.
" (in case you can get little of the bulgarian) but basically it says: after the press in BG exposed the song as not-qualifying, because it was put on an album which went on the market in September ... the Ministry of Culture announced that the OFFICIAL permit for release for the album was issued by them in November!

Oh my .. this is getting interesting! So if the Ministry allowed to release the abum in November, does it mean that the album was released unofficially? If released unofficially but by who? If it was an unauthorised official release, the song will be "bustered" anyway. Just a note to Svante and BG will get some publicity! Yeah!

well, if you ask me.. the album was released very officialy at the time, by one of the largest companies in bulgaria - Sunny Music. The 'real offcial' paper, saying it is allowing releasein November, was produced after the fact, so that the song can qualify!
"If it was an unauthorised official release, the song will be "bustered" anyway" - by this sentanse you mean that you think it will not be allowed to participate in the contest anyway?

and finally who/what is Svante?

How can you proove that the album was released in Spetember 2004?

Svante Stockselius@ebu.ch is an EBU Supervisor.

The official rules of ESC 2005 say:
Section Five, 2: The entry (lyrics and music) must not have been commercially released and/or publically performed before 1 October 2004.

Adds: Okay, I got the info that the Bulgarian song was released on Aug. 08, 2004. It doesn't matter what papers have been written to legalise the release. If the song has been publically performed (Slavi Show in Aug. 2004) and then released, the case is clear. The song will be disqualified. That's 100%.

OMG!!! I decided to leave tatysite and you start a ESC thread? I hate you!!!!

Can Greece finally send a decent song?

OMG2!! Greece has selected Elena from Antique without any contest whatsoever. But I agree with the choice though I haven't listened to the song. We're definitely gonna get high marks from Sweden and Germany again

I don't expect Bulgaria to create a buzz though you never know...maybe first time lucky?

Well (IMO) Poland's songs have always been... well, not good. :/ I listened to their song and I don't like it, like most other Polish songs that have been on Eurovision. They have no.. "spice".. sorry I donno how to explain this.. but it's just the same thing over and over, quite boring in my opinion.

I really cant believe that the bulgarian TV people are really THAT stupid... they have the rules in both Bulgarian and English right on THEIR site: http://www.bnt.bg/content/view/full/4348/

ok, im gonna send e-mail to my x-journalist cousin, who will hopefully update me with what the deal is... because the BG media clearly states that 'Slavi and Sofi Marinova will NOT be disqualified"!

p.s. if the bulgarians send those 2 and they indeed do get disqualify ... I cant even beging to tell you how typically bulgarian THAT would be.. ha ha ha

p.s.s. forre, maybe you should send an e-mail to that EV official and get the scandal started!
