The Gender Genie
So, this site believes it can successfully predict the gender of the author of any piece of writing. It claims to have an 80% success rate. I dediced to test that with posts from a random selection of Tatysite members. Well, four random members and myself.
For best results, I tried to use long posts. Here are the results. I have not omitted any. Honestly. freddie (based on a reply to the 'Religions' thread) Female Score: 609 Male Score: 523 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: female! Parrish (based on the 'Porn!' story) Female Score: 827 Male Score: 1159 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male! QueenBee (based on a reply to the 'My So-Called Friend' Thread) Female Score: 2817 Male Score: 2880 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male! sunny poison (also based on a reply to 'My So-Called friend' - it attracted long posts) Female Score: 3758 Male Score: 4263 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male! Tom Violence (based on a post from August which I think was my longest here) Female Score: 1185 Male Score: 1110 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: female! Hmm. Not quite an 80% success rate then. |

 I mean - I could simply guess and I'd have better result by statistic alone.

here's my results
I used an entry from one of my online blogs to test this thing out.
Words: 809 (NOTE: The genie works best on texts of more than 500 words.) Female Score: 2508 Male Score: 1444 The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: female! And it's correct! Thanks for the link. I found it interesting

huh... well, sometimes I like playing games and hiding my gender even writing in such a gender-specific language like russian is. Just for fun. Just to see I can do it. It's not easy in russian. But... I swear! Here I didn't try to do anything like that! I can't remember exactly what was written in that post, but I somehow think it was clear enough that I was female. Yeah, I WAS... now I'm a male as this site says... cool

I'm always female. Hmmm... maybe I should change my style of writing a bit, to suit my gender better.

It was close though.. But the test was really strange though.. Apparently words such as "so", "has" and "am" are feminine keywords
