Khorkina was harshly marked on the beam...The Russians are falling behind at the half-way mark...(sorry, 3/4 way mark - I forgot the women only compete on 4 pieces of apparatus).

And it is Romania - USA - Russia! Another good gymnastics competition - not quite as exciting as the men's last night because Romania always looked like the winners.

You saw the basketball?

Well, I thought we'd falter at the beginning but I enjoyed how we played, only 6 points at the end. Our team is good and there are lots of other good teams in this competition, so hopefully they will be beaten when it matters

oh finally Rai Sports showed something else than fencing? that's a good step

I have to say, I really enjoy these games a lot and I try to watch everything. Top stuff

transcend , I'm still looking for a little inspiration from the British team. Common, get your fighting spirit back!

Was that a rhetorical question?

Well, anyhow on Friday we have:

lots of archery - it's a cool sport to watch and I think there's one hour of coverage from the BBC somewhere in their program

and from athletics the first round of the 100 metres in both women and men, qualifiers of triple jump, womens heptathlon, hammer qualifiers, 20 km walk, 1500 m qualifiers, mens high jump qualifiers, 400 m, shot put finals, womens 800 qualifiers, womens discus, womens 5000m. How on earth are they gonna fit all that in a single day?

there's badminton ( the Brits will televise the whole lot )

womens basketball, still 1st round

beach volleyball round of 16 ( Brits like it, well everybody like it for obvious reasons )

lots of boxing finals

canoe kayak finals

cycling race ( I like that one )

equestrian

fencing

football ( womens quarters )

swimming ( 50 m freestyle finals, the womens 100m butterfly finals, 200 womens backstroke, 800 freestyle mens - they have so many! and lots of preliminaries )

womens doubles final on ping pong

all the semi finals in tennis

still preliminaries in volleyball & water polo

and the final 75 kilos in weight lifting

In other words, expect a lot of swimming and athletics on tv

Britain is piling up the medals now. They just won one bronze in archery and another in canoeing and their strong badminton mixed team will play in the final tomorrow.

Still no gold though.

Medals classification so far:

China 10 6 4
USA 8 9 7
Japan 7 3 1
Australia 6 3 5
Ukraine 4 1 1
Russia 3 6 6
France 3 2 4
Italy 2 3 2

Gymnastics - Men Individual All-Around Final
1. Paul Hamm (USA) After a complete fall on the Vault I never thought he could make it!
2. Kim Dae Eun (Kor)
3. Yang Tae Young (Kor)
Congratulations to Korea anyway and little Paul too!

P.S. During the boxing match between Rus and Ecu today, in the pause after the 2nd round they played NGGU. Hi-hi.

The gymnastics was exciting tonight! I feel sorry for Tomita lousing it up on the floor though - he was my male gymnastics poster-boy for the evening. Here's hoping for better luck for Khorkina in the women's all-round final (which must be tomorrow?). I dunno what's wrong with the top seeds in the tennis either. I lament the loss of Roger but think the scene could be set for Amelie to come through in the women's and finally take on the mantle of biker-dyke tattooed wine-quaffing French heroine...that she so richly deserves!

You won bronze in mens shot put. Ukraine got the gold from the American right in the final throw.

Myskina beat Daniilidou 7-5, 6-4.

I can't say I'm excited about the tennis tournament. The court is slow and the event seems out of sorts for the Olympics in my opinion.
