Btw dradeel, you who are aware of what's going on in the metal community, do you know if there was some kind of 'word' in metal forums and such to vote massively for Lordi?

They aren't popular with death metal fans because they don't take things seriously . However, I've been on other music forums tonight and Lordi are hugely popular !

We're not talking about winning Eurovision but at least get a respectable position. For 4 years now France are getting positions of 15th and below, last two years they're dancing around the zero mark.
A win with another language? Its not easy but it's possible. I believe a song in Serbo-croatian will be the one to do it. They're coming close every year - Serbia were second in 2004, remember?
Yes, the English language helps but what about the UK with their "nil points" saga? What about Ireland?

I also believe that the organisers are killing off the competition by not allowing the "big 4" to qualify through the semi. UK, France, Germany, Spain. Ever since the new format was introduced they're doing abysmally all the way.
Look at tonight's results, all of the top songs were qualifiers. Unless they change that stupid format, the trend will continue...and they won't be able to save the ratings either.
If the big 4 had to qualify, everything would change.

Well, yes and no. There hasn't been any big thing in the metal community to vote for them, but some have said they wanted to drink beer and watch them perform, and I guess they vote as well then. Hehehe. I voted at least!

Bulldust! Should have read "everybody knows that it's absolutely impossible for a booooooring song in French sung off key to win Eurovision" - would be more close to the truth. Didn't Celine win?

Rachel Thanks for the Lordi d/l. I was laughing so much last night I forgot to record it.

They were "amazing" (which I think was the word of the night) and worthy winners of the annual schlockfest.

As far as I'm concerned they only won because of the huge amount of publicity they received. It was all pretty much negative publicity but all publicity is good publicity in the end.

I wonder how long it'll be before Lordi completely disappear?

Possibly, but here we are back to the neighboring voting, it's only possible because of the Slavic solidarity and exchange of points between those countries. We have no such thing on our side, as showed last night, no other country is going to give us 12 points just because of the geographic position.

Honestly, i think the UK and Ireland send the worst songs they can find on purpose because they don't want to have to spend any money on organizing the next show if they won. Anyone remember that 'Father Ted' episode (an Irish show) made at the time when Ireland won Eurovision three times in a row? In that episode Irish officials were looking for the worst act possible for the following year so they would finally *lose* because organizing Eurovison 3 times in a row was costing the country too much money.
It was a joke, but i'm thinking it may not be so far from the truth.

Oh i totally agree, everybody should go through the semi, songs in French would be eliminated right there (look at poor Kate Ryan, lol, only the title was in French but that was enough to get her kicked out) and that would be less embarrassing than nul points at the final.

That may be true, but even if we sent one of our top-selling artists with a potential hit, it would still end up last or close to last, that's just the way it is now.

I already answered to that, it was 20 years ago, different times, i won't ever happen again.

The show already lost its way when it included Turkey and Israel.
