Kino
Viktor Tsoi was a famous Russian rock artist and leader of the group «Kino». Few bands in the history of Russian music have been more popular or have had more impact on their genre than the rock band Kino. Tsoi's innovative lyrics and music impressed the crowd. He wanted to experiment with lyrics and music in order to create something fresh that no one had ever heard before. Tsoi succeeded in his goal. The release of their 7th album "Группа крови" (Russian for Blood Type) triggered what was then called "Kinomania. The sound and lyrics of the album made Tsoi a hero among Russia's youth and "Kino" the most popular rock band ever.

Thanks Тривими . I love the song 'Pachka sigaret'. I used to have that on my old laptop along with a few other Kino songs (including 'Sledi za soboy'). Here's a song I still have - Kukushka (Cuckoo). This was also covered by Zemfira.

There are absolutely loads of mp3s on mirkino.net.
And as far as Kino covers go, I love Zdob şi Zdub version of 'Videli Noch'. I'll put it online as soon as I'm somewhere with an internet connection that works for more than a minute at a time. |

It only downloads the first 4 seconds of each song that's posted in the starters post of this thread.. Not fun, because it sounds cool!

When I have written about the "second style", it was inexact definition. The "second style"- are old songs of "KINO" less known than songs from an album " Gruppa krovi ". I like this almost acoustic sound. Alyuminievye ogurtsy, Vos`miklassnitsa, Bezdel`nik 2, Prosto hochesh..., Moi druzya it`s songs from the first album of group titled "45". This disk was made with help from Boris Grebenshchikov and "Aquarium".

American group "Brazzaville" has made cover-version a song of group "КINO" - Zvezda po imeni Solntse.
Brazzaville CD «East L.A. Breeze» - 2006. A song in English has title «Star called Sun ". It’s not translation, in this version other lyrics. The site where is present fragment: http://msk.afisha.ru/cd/ The information became little sensation for me! |

I am glad if you liked this song, Nikki!
Note: Victor Tsoi's mum has not died. I frequently met her earlier. She worked as the teacher in my school. The story of the cover from the site of group Brazzaville: "We recorded a version of a song called Star Called Sun. It was written by Viktor Tsoi from the band Kino. I used his chords and melodies and wrote my own lyrics. Although his lyrics were beautiful, I felt that they would lose a lot in the translation when trying to fit them to the music so I wrote a song about my mother’s death while preserving the theme of stars and the the sun. The refrain of my version is “There’s one million stars, for every little grain of sand down there”. That was a concept that had been obsessing me ever since I heard about it on the BBC. I was happy that I was finally able to work it into a song. We shot a video for Star Called Sun. It was shot by a French epicurian swinger by the name of Emanuelle Clemenceau AKA Manolete. He and his cameraman, Antoine, spent a few days with us here in Barcelona shooting. The bulk of the video will be footage of Mariona Aupi playing the role of my mother when she was young back in the early 70s. There is footage of her with a baby (meant to be me), sparklers etc. I have yet to see the video but I’m sure it will be beautiful if I know Manolete." |

Here's my translation
A STAR CALLED THE SUN Pure-white snow, silver ice On the ground speckled with cracks Like a patchwork blanket, there lies A city encircled in tracks And above we see the floating clouds Blocking the heavenly lights And above we see the yellow smoke The city's lived two thousand nights Right under the rays of the star Which we call the Sun And two thousand years of war A war without meaning or cause A war as a trade for the young A remedy that heals all the flaws Crimsoning, crimsoning blood In an hour it's only the earth In two hours we see the flowers abloom Three hours pass, and we see the rebirth And the warmth of the rays of the star Which we call the Sun And we know that it has always been so That the Fate always favours the one Who stays true to his innermost law And who died when his days just begun He no longer can recall "yes" or "no" He no longer sees the names or the ranks And can simply reach the stars, as though He believes they're not delusional pranks And can fall down, singed by the star Which we call the Sun |

Thanks allot for that translation - as it not only shows a great knowledge of Russian and English language - but a knowledge of poetry as well. |
