Check following:
1. Jumpers: last one on the cable = Master, the other = Slave
2. Check the IDE - cable: Steal daddies cable and try it. If it's o.k. then you need only a new cable
3. Does the BIOS recognize it? If yes, then you have only to look into the drive manager of your system administration
4. Check, if pins are o.k., especially those on board, if the power cable is firmly attached.
