So, I'm slow in figuring this out, but whatever...

Keep of Kalessin won their norwegian semi final, and will play in the Norwegian final leg Saturday, February 6th. I have a slight feeling they'll sweep through the finals too, but only time will tell of course. I haven't heard a single of the other songs this year.

I must admit, I like the verses much more than the chorus on KoK's song. The chorus sound like a strangely "catchy" heavy metal tune, which didn't appeal to me that much, while the verses sounded much more like straight forward extreme metal. But I guess it's the catchy heavy metal-ness that will give them _any votes at all_. Hahaha :D

Check out their first performance here

Transcript from the clip:

"Our music style is epic extreme metal, which is close to black metal, but more melodic and inspired by movie soundtracks, big fantasy movies and that sorta stuff. During the last year we've played about 150 concerts in USA, Europe and here and there."
"We've been in studio for the last couple of months recording a new album, which will be released in May."
"Since we're all from Trondheim it feels like we're on home field. We're attending Eurovision to break some limits and to reach out to an audience we probably wouldn't reach otherwise."
"The song is called The Dragontower. It's written by Arnt and text is by Keep of Kalessin."
*Song is introduced and starts to play*

I love KoK's song but,the hot favourite is something else,so is mine.Didrik Solli-Tangen sings My Heart Is Yours

I so love this song and it should win the final.

dradeel 06-02-2010 02:32

A ballad is the big favorite for the final? Hasn't there only been one ballad that has won for the past .. what ... 10-15 years, and that was that Serbian song if I'm not mistaken? Meeh... I dunno. I guess only time will tell. :)

fanoff 06-02-2010 17:07

I love the song, and the presentation is awesome.Other acts don't have a chance the win the whole thing though. We'll see who wins tonight:p Anyway you guys won't be winning for the second time in a row :)

Tonight Iceland and Denmark will be choosing their representative fror Oslo.

This is the favourite in Iceland

You can sleep safe tonight. Keep of Kalessin didn't win the norwegian final. Some random guy I have no idea who is won, and thus Norway will not win two years in a row. If Keep of Kalessin had been sent to the european finals and had the right type of performance with a lotta pyro and stash they'd wipe europe clean of points, I'm quite certain. They'd get the same 'appeal' as Lordi, just trigger more people because they're more extreme. That won't happen now though :)

fanoff 07-02-2010 18:13

I don't think Keep Of Kalessin would have done well if they had won the final. The chorus was too weak, and the guitar solos were too hard for an average person. The song that won will do very well in Eurovision,I can see it winning the whole thing but public don't vote for the hosting nation in Eurovision that much :)

AshMcAuliffe 07-02-2010 18:18

I love how the UK are keeping schtum about all things Eurovision. Although rumours suggest Jedward as entry...

fanoff 07-02-2010 21:15

BBC announced two weeks ago that the composer of the entry will be Paul Waterman, who is responsible for Kylie Minogue's I Should Be So Lucky etc. The performer will be selected in a series of shows. So UK did not keep schtum at all :p

AshMcAuliffe 07-02-2010 22:39

oh god... i hate UK entries.

It's all about the performance, and if they planned that right it could go all the way. I'll be the first to say the chorus was a little weak, but there have been sucky songs winning before, so that's no guarantee. ;)

What does that have to do with anything? KoK is quite a technical band. There are tons of technical metal bands that can pull "worse" things off live flawlessly. Are you thinking people wouldn't like the solo because it's just too much? I'm quite certain that's part of what would've given them victory. They would be something different, and that gets attention, and that gets votes. That's how simple it works. Lordi was the perfect example of everything done correctly. With the same package on a different concept, and you'll win. That's virtually how every winner has won. It's really not all about the song, cause it's rarely the best song that wins. What KoK did however lack in their song, that may be essential, was a "catch line". Something that sticks in your head from the song...

But ballads don't really win... It's not a bad song, sure, but it's just another one of the traditional Eurovision songs that haven't won for some 15 years +. Also Didrik can't really sing it. He has the range for the top parts, but he can't sing the first part of the song at all. I expect him to be another pretty face among a bunch of pretty faces in Eurovision. And yes, you're right about people giving less points to the hosting nation ... if we don't consider Ireland in the 90s :p So that'll just make it even harder. Hehe. In my opinion Norway just hasn't learned from their successes and mistakes, cause we've sent this kinda song 10 times before over the last two decades and ended up at the bottom every time.

And their performance was not enough to win the final, that's what I was trying to say.Lordi was visionally good and had a great PR work that gathered youngs that listened to metal and made them vote.We don't think that middle aged European audience voted for them,do we?

Personally I love Kok's song but I doubted it could win and it didn't.

Serbia in 2007 won with a ballad, and Dima Bilan from Russia won with a song one can define a ballad in 2008.It's all about the performance,if you can impress the audience and make people vote for you,you win :)

And Bulgaria is sending this performer to Oslo.Miro is an amazing singer.coolasfcuk sent a couple of his hits, watch them too.I'm sure you'll love it!

I believe I mentioned Serbia in my other post. They are the only ones winning with a ballad for like ... along time, and that specific year it was perfect timing compared to the rest of the field. It was in contrast to the abundance of foolish and non-serious acts coming up, and the abundance of plastic faces and pretty boys. And Dima Bilan's song wasn't a traditional eurovision ballad, and you know it :p

You'd be surprised at hos many middle aged people appreciated them, cause those are the people that remembered the old rock bands from the 70s and enjoyed the decade of hard rock in the 80s. You shouldn't underestimate the Black Sabbath-Judas Priest-AC/DC-Iron Maiden-Kiss-factor. Young metalheads don't give a darn about Eurovision...

And Lordi's performance in the finnish finals weren't that fantastic either, although they had costumes. That was it. But the finnish flag top hat, wings, axe with pyro etc in the international finals, in addition to all the mystery around the people gave them the victory. KoK could easily have added the same show to their performance and created mystery around them after winning the norwegian finals... they had the potential, and now it won't be realized. Myyy point is that Didrik with his bland pretty face and a You Raise Me Up copycat song will hardly stand out... I guess only time will tell, but I expect Europe to offer a more deserving winner. :) I for one know that sending traditional eurovision songs isn't a good tactic and never worked for Norway ;)

I'll give it a listen later. Busy right now :) Is there a Eurovision website updated with all the final contenders in the international final in Oslo?

In Norway you may be right, but for the Eastern Block,Balkans and Turkey not many middle aged people voted I think :) Younger people might have voted because Lordi had an internet campaign, telling them to vote for them if they didn't like what is going on in ESC.It was quite succesful :)

It's not the first time that I have to say about a Turkish entry that I like the song much more than the singer. I don't expect Caruso nor M. Jackson, but...his performance is boooring. Anyway, I love the nickname of the uploader! :D

little_polar_bear 08-03-2010 02:22

This year seems to be one of the most boring ones... mostly ballads bleh...
I find the Isaraelian singer hot and I love ICELAND.
Hera Björk has already tried several times to qualify and she made it with "Je ne sais quoi". She is a professional and I appreciate that!

Peter Nalitch will represent Russia in Oslo

The Russian final:

Peter Nalitch - "Lost And Forgotten" №1
Buranovskie Babushki (Grannies from Buranovo) №3
MIUSHA - Big Bang №22

I really like Buranovskie Babushki! Many of the participants of the 'Buranovskie Babushki' choir are well older than 70!

fanoff 08-03-2010 19:30

Those babushkies shouldhave won and Russia is coming with a very weak song, unlike their previous entries.
