I watched as morn flew away.
You smiled and shook your head
With not a thing left to say.

You asked me to learn your song,
Right all the things you did wrong.
Not looking, you clipped my wings.
Not knowing, you took my things.

And I kept wanting to fly,
Until you would start to cry.
So I would just perch nearby,
Stop for a moment and try.

And I stopped looking outside,
When you kept me by your side.
But sometimes, you left the room,
And I was left in this gloom.

So I would sing quietly,
About spring winds and blue skies,
How they looked so like your eyes,
So you could deny it, see?

But you would come home at night,
With heart-shaped hands and kisses,
Laughter and kept promises,
Like wishes in the moonlight.

And I no longer awoke
To a foggy mountain cloak,
Humming sadly in my perch
Of wood from a weeping birch.

Till that day, you went away
And all the clouds turned dark gray.
But I told you I would stay,
I would sing to find your way.

And I can still hear your voice,
When you said you had no choice...
My feathers have turned all black,
Waiting for you to come back.

I'd give you my wings to keep
And I'd not care that I bled,
If I could just watch you sleep
From that cage beside your bed.[/font]
