Hi, everyone. I didn't see a thread or discussion about M.I.A. yet, so I thought I'd see if anyone here has heard of her. She sings a mix of dance and Hip-Hop, basically. Her first song, "Galang" seemed to get quite a bit of sucess in the U.K. and elsewhere. I like her music because it has such an original sound that you don't hear often.

are you reading my thoughts... i've thought of posting something about her here the past couple of weeks, but never got to do it ....

I LOVE M.I.A.

We listen to her at my office pretty much every day

the whole album - it was my boss's boyfriend (he shares the office with us) who introduced me to her. I must admit he listens to GREAT music

and there is always something awsome coming out of hims G5 iTunes non-stop! (with the occasional KCRW Santa Monica broadcast)

He told me she based in the UKm but is from Pakistan?! I dont know, have not have chance to look her up, but i enjoy her music and her 'screamy' voice... its catchy....

yeah she's cool and she has a neat style. I like how she brings in her own background to her music. She's from Sri Lanka.

Haha, from what I've gathered about her, she was born in the UK but lived in Sri Lanka and later, in India, until she was in her teens. Then they moved back to the UK cause Sri Lanka was about to have a civil war, and her father was a revolutionary leader for the minority population in Sri Lanka. So she went to college in the UK and studied film, and then started a project with some dj named Dilpo, I think, and then she started playing with a synth and wanted to record her own music...
And now she's here!

M.I.A. be hot. i missed her show in ann arbor and apparently she rocked out. she also started spewing "fcuk bush, fcuk this country" comments which made the crowd go crazy. wish i could've been there.

baaaaah, are you kidding me ... she is performing in S.F. tonight!!!! and I CANT go

...I am pissed, as i was looking fwd to going to that show, but oh well.... the good thing is - she is performing in Oakland in a month or so, so i will definitely try to go there!
