well either using divx 6 or Vobsub.. either way the sub file has to be named the same thing as the video file (excluding the fileextension that is). Unless you mean writing my own subs which I haven't tried

ive drawn blanks finding instrumental or kareoke versions of the songs she wants, and was wondering if anyone here knew of a piece of software that could help me mute the vocals of a song and just leave it as music ?

i'm sorry to dissapoint you, but i don't think there IS such software...
those actions are pretty hard to do in pro studios and all those freeware and shareware software usually don't do shyte, they actually ruin the whole song... if you're eager to try it, use goldwave (www.goldwave.com), but be warned...

and virtual dub too, and it is free...
