Am I right in thinking that Tatu lyrics, if taken out of context, do not gramatically suggest homosexuality? (in a TA lyubit TU fashion) I had thought that "ya tvoya ne pervaya" might have, but now think the genders are probably just in agreement with a female singer and so might just as easily be sung to a boy.

example: 'Ya tvoya ne pervaya, ty moya sluchainaya' [sorry, no Cyrillic keyboard at work] - so here we have translated: 'I am not your first (where pervaya is in female form), you are my random one (where sluchainaya is also in female form)'. So really it is a girl singing to a girl , and could never be a girl singing to a guy. hope that helps.

yes, since it is a girl singing, and both those words are in feminine form.

I hope I am explaining this OK... случайная can not be either gender. It is definatelly in feminine form. So, the girl (that is singing) is talking about another girl - so definately girl-girl thing
If she was talking to/about a guy (the singer that is) it will be ты мой случайный .... I hope I got this right..where мой is in masculine and случайный is also masculine. In comparission to the feminine form: ты моя случайная. ...hehe, copied Cyrillic from the online dictionary
it can never be either genders in Russian - the gender is always specified by the words - so you always know if you are talking about a 'he', a 'she', an 'it', 'they' etc

"забвеньe" is a fancy old word for the state of sleeping or unconciousness. And because it's a poem the word order is slightly counterintuitive. It is correct nonetheless. A clearer way to state the same thing would be "Я отдалась сну и забвенью".

Ах, конечно! Damn counterintuitive... I thought "сну" is a verb! So I was confused and of course couldn`t find it anywhere. Ok, nominative is "сон" and сну is dative I guess, unless it`s some old form too, like много народу for example. Thank you so much elf!

Elf, I can`t read Пушкин yet. As I said, I`m still on 1st page. My reading is so slow that I have decided "to do my Pushkin" later when I`m better in Russian. But that is my target, to be able to read Pushkin in Russian someday.

No, you don`t have to excuse, you were right. "мая" is "May", it`s just in genetive.

Well, here is my homework. Thank you russkayatatu , this was very useful exercise. I didn`t guess these genders, I tried to find some rules.

Well, my dictionary says that "потому" and "поэтому" both means "therefore" or "that`s why". Maybe there is some rule what says when you should use потому and when поэтому?

And "на улице" means also "in the open air" or "outdoors".
