What's the big deal with photoshopping? It's great when you don't have enough natural light for instance. There's no camera in the world that can produce great colours at grey and dark environment. Before, photographers had expensive labs to work directly on their films before printing. Ordinary people couldn't naturally afford this. Now, when we have digital photography and even film pics are scanned first and printed after, graphic editors do the job instead of labs. It's the same as musicians use computers when mastering their music.

Photoshop is great to give a special atmosphere too.

there is no big deal. i was only wondering if it is. the brightness in the hue of the window has a big contrast with everything else in the photo. digital photography is great and very popular these days, but to me it's a little inorganic and i prefer great manual work.

Offtop:
i know a bunch of photographers, many of whom go to ICP or pratt, or SVA, or Savannah

The colour was naturally great plus the window was lit by the sun. Indeed, the pic is great. It has something. It speaks to you.

It's still labs and still tools to enhance the photo. They still reframe the pics in those labs. It's not so much different than "crop" in graphic editors. You still need to have an eye to crop the pic correctly. Photoshop doesn't do it automatically.

Look at this. This is a 35 mm film camera. The pic is taken on the fly from a moving car. It's all about the light anyway. I used photoshop to rotate the pic and to put a frame. The colours are still authentic though.

that is true, when it comes to editing, graphic editors are pretty handy. a friend of mine is one of the best printers around and she does all her work manually. her manual work is based more on skill and technique, rather than how advance and accurate the technology is. either way, i like her work, and much of the manual work i've seen. that doesn't mean digital/graphic work isn't great, i just haven't gotten around to fully accepting it. but many people are doing it that way these days. and many more will.

Then again. The example I gave shows that I could do the same manually because it was about rotating and framing the pic. Then, I would use scanner to scan it. I would just spend more time using scissors instead of a mouse. Postprocessing is used either way. It's just many more talented people have a chance to show their work as the technology became available to more people nowadays.

Photographers generally are closed and envious people. They can't accept that the tools are less exclusive now. It's not about art any longer. It's about personal attitudes.

i agree with both points. while it is great that more people can edit their work using technology, the people who started with and are accustomed to manual work have a very different attitude. it's almost like a clashing of worlds in a sense because many people still accredit manual work as THE way to do it. and graphic work is new, popular, and provides for new ways to do things, and different ways as well, creates a bit of envy on the other side.
