I've seen it. It's amazing. A mexican version of American Pie... goes where AP can't, because of censorship. Is also much more profound then AP or other teen comedies - it deals with some serious issues like existentilism, despare, death; things that a US comedy would never dare to touch. Plus it makes a subtle comment on social and political conditionss in Mexico. I personaly loved it - it reminded me of some european movies, really far away from Hollywood production.

PS: Some of the scenes are REALLY hot; almost soft-porn

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I want to see that, I've heard that's it's kinda "soft porn".
But I expect it to be good cause Mexican cinema is a lot better than American.

Maybe I'll download it if I can't find it in the video store

Mexican cinema is like Mexican soap-operas. Too damn irreal. -_- I just can't bring myself to like it because even thought when I love my country, I was not made to see 3 hours "churros" about the conditions of my country.

To be honest, if I want to see misery, I think I'll go take a walk around the block. Why pay 40 pesos to see it?

Y Tu Mama Tambien is a splendid film. The use of the narrator is a tremendous touch, since it means tremendous weight can be injected into even the most delicate scenes.

The sex scenes were the most realistic I've ever seen in a film. I don't understand people who approach it from the angle of 'legitimate' pornography, I admired the fact that the naturalism of the sex scenes did nothing to pander to lascivious audiences.

The cinematograhpy was tremendous, too. Anybody who apes the swimming pool shots from The Graduate is doing well by me.

i love the movie for its stripped down, raw energy that is sweet but bittersweet at the same time. not only does the film provide a vivid look into the lives of teens, it does so without hollywood sugarcoating and overdramaticization. it also provides interesting social commentary about mexico throughout the film. darje? any more comments?

this was my favourite film from last year. really beautiful, but funny and sad also. It also helps that Gael Garcнa Bernal is such a beautiful man himself, which adds to the films beauty!!! (feeling all dreamy now!!)

US comedies wouldn't touch such issues because they know their audiences don't see comedies for existentilism, despair, or death, not because of censorship.
Well, at least I know I don't watch comedies for such things... unless I'm rocking the ganja.

I didn't find Y Tu Mama Tambien to be all that for me... I think it was because I was overhyped to it or something.

No, no, no. I was saying that it's ALSO much more profound then the US comedies (that's where I mentioned existentilism, despair, death...).

Meaning besides the stuff that were shown because of lack of censorship - by those I meant soft-porn scenes, homosexual motives ... those can't be shown in the land of the free.

Yeah it can, I know what you're saying Freddie I just don't agree with you. Those themes are very much prevalent in Hollywood Films, even more in American Indies.
But just not in comedies, if so it would be trivialized and is made fun of, alot.

Though if you're trying to say that homosexual themes aren't explored in American films than say that of other film industries, then I'll totally agree with you there.

I was saying that homosexual themes aren't explored as well as censorship regarding sexuality as a whole. Of course you can have movie-theater soft-porn in the US as well - look at Basic Instinct. But those movies are all rated as inappropriate for younger audiance so they lose a lot of viewers viewers that way. Comedies are mostly intended for younger audiances so they can't aford to be X-rated. That's why they compromise, not because they fear trivialization of sex - sex can be shown pretty explicitly, and can still remain beautyful, without being trivialized.

I think they had a homosexual experiance. Why? Who knows. Maybe the director wanted to prove Ivan's theory in the oposite direction - that all men are bisexual. I don't know about that. The only time that I'd kiss a guy would be at a tatu concert or if hell froze over.

They didn't end their friendship per-se. They just driffted apart. Weren't moving in the same circles anymore.

freddie, in fact Diego Luna (who surprisingly is a former schoomate of my brother's) suggested the sexual innuendo between them. 'Twas funny. :P

I like the movie, but I think it's not very realistic....
