Please help!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forumn and have some questions. I've never dealt with ftp sites or anything of the like before and was wondering how they work...I downloaded something to access ftp sites and I can access them fine, it's just that when I go to download something off of them, I am never successful. Does the owner of the ftp site have to be online in order for me to download anything? Also, do I have to download a special program to play .avi fliles or is Windows Media Player good enough? Sorry for all the questions!

I use WS_FTP Lite. Cute FTP and Coffecup are also two other good programs. Browsers, like IE, Netscape and Opera don't typically work because they always try to login as anonymous.

All you need is the IP address or URL of the FTP site, and the username/password if it's not an anonymous ftp. The latter is common at FTP sites, but not so much among Tatu sites. Quite a few of the Tatu sites have user/pass of tatu/tatu or something like that. That's why you need a real FTP program.

Check http://www.tucows.com/ or http://www.shareware.com/ to find an FTP program. RTFM!!! (Google that term if yer not sure what it means).

Media Player has been the best one I've found for .avi files, though I despise Mico products. If anyone out there has a better one, let me know. For .mpg files I use BSPlayer.
