Marina, Haku has perfectly replied.
Here, in the minds of people , Eurovision is a contest which helps to discover the different cultures or more precisely the different types of music/lyrics which represent, which have the "color" of a country.

That 's why here people don't understand why Italians don't sing anymore Italian or Germans don't sing anymore with German Langage...because even a language gives a specific "sound" to a song..

Personally,I don't think it sounds so ridiculous as Idea...
Indeed, I think it's more ridiculous to read, after, in all the newspapers:
"Oh! Viva Bulgaria which is the Winner of Eurovision!!...with a Portuguese singer who sang a song written for the lyrics by a German and for the Music by a Greek. And this song , of course,is sang in English."

It becomes as some soccer teams where you have just the supporters/fans who are native from the country, indeed...and after you sing "Yeah! XXCountry has won the cup!"

That's why , as English is dominating now , we should transform a little the things in saying ...The Winner is "afvdgtSONG"...."We give 12 points to "afvdgtSONG"...." and we shouldn't speak any more about "countries" in this context...

But of course, we are just chauvinistic...

Take away the content the song itself was one of those pathetic numbers that do absolutely nothing every year. ( they usually come from Iceland )
Yes, she was making fun in a more well-thought way than Lithuania - wouldn't say sophisticated, She didn't deserve to be booed, of course, her stage act was really good. But if you think either of the two songs deserved to qualify, then it's your ears that need to be checked, not mine.
Finally, lyrics in the mold of "we will win Eurovision, blah blah"...have been done before in the contest, so they didn't break any new ground in that regard.
Of course you can say whatever you want about how cool all those tacky acts were, and I wouldn't have much to say as there was not much at all musical about Athens. As I said, musically the worst contest in recent memory.

Kate Ryan didn't qualify though she had a perfectly musical number. Why? simply because people like you are taking the piss by voting for acts like Lithuania's and Iceland's. The UK does the same thing every single year when voting. They were first to vote for Alf freaking Poier and that German bald dude, whatever his name is. So lets decide if we want to have a musical show or a show were shitty acts are taking the piss at Eurovision. As if it made any sense anyway.
There have been a few joke acts in recent years and I haven't liked them because they were just stupid and bad, rather than satirical. Going on Eurovision and doing something deliberately extremely bad isn't difficult. Lithuania's entry was stupid, a one-joke song, a joke that as you said has been done before. Sivlia Night was doing something more interesting, she was engaging in parody in quite a witty way. The music itself didn't sound bad, it was a parody of the style of Eurovision songs (including the screaming). It was more musical than say the Turkish or Ukrainian entries that beat it to the final. If the Eurovision audience had any musical taste, Kate Ryan would have made it through to the final regardless of Silvia Night. The fact that LT United beat Silvia Night to the final and that the others knocked out Kate Ryan shows that most of the voters don't.

Because nobody would vote for them. Greece and Finland were sending songs sung in their native languages for decades but people would dismiss them because of the "language factor". The language just sounded "bad". Not everybody can send songs that are musical in a specific way like France does.
I wished people were more openminded and the native languages came back though. There's nothing worse than having to tolerate those horrible English accents and lyrics year every year.

That's a bit of a paraniod stance, isn't it? If I didn't know any better I'd think you're one of those crazy seperatists from Quebec with mannic fear of anything remotely anglosaxon.
It's weird how France is the only country who corelates singing in another language (and sometimes even speaking in one) as "abandonment of one's culture". It's even more ridiculous when it's coming from speakers of a language that has the 4th strongest speaking base on the globe and is in no way in hell endangered, nor is the french culture. Slovene on the other hand might be considered as endangered (only 2,2 million speakers in the world), yet we don't consider sending an english number to Eurovision as "endangering our culture". We take it for what it is - it's just a song competition. Doesn't mean we'll all of a sudden abandon our langauge or culture and start speaking in English exclusively. We're very protective (and sometimes equally paranoid) when it comes to preserving our language and herritage. But only where it counts. And Eurovision doesn't really count in that respect.

I think things are fine as they are. Don't forget that people have A CHOICE now. They might just as well all sing in their native langauges if they cared to do so. Before they didn't have a choice - it was either their native language or nothing. Which gave a huge advantage to native speaking english countries like Ireland or UK and french speaking countries like Switzerland, Belgium and France... and to a lesser extent even italian. All those languages have a nice (and internationally familair) sound to them. Some languages - I could mention greek (no offence spy ), turkish (no offence fanoff ) or slovene (not appologizing to anyone for that. ) - just sound like crap while being sung. At least to a non native. Not to mention Finland or Estonia wouldn't have a chance in hell if the native language rule would apply again. All ugro-finish languages sound terribly monotone. A nightmare for any international song contest. Now compare that to Italian where every word ends with a vowel. Unfair advantage or what?
To sum it up... the current rules may not be perfect, but they're certainly more fair to everyone. If someone has a fabulous song in their native langauge and feel comfortable enough to showcase it, they're allowed to do so and if not they still have options to try it in a different language (not just english, remember... our 2002 entry almost went ahead and sang in German).

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

you might be right while even most native Turkish people think that the eurovision entry is rather to be sung in english(at least last year and this year, this years entry was written by Sibel Tüzün in English first, and then translated to Turkish)

No, correct. None of them really deserved to qualify. What I agree on, and what I guess simon was saying was that Silvia Night deserved the place in the final more than Lithuenia. Since Lithuenia got one, Iceland should've too, or at least Iceland should've been there instead of Lithuenia, but if everything were to being optimal - then none of them should've ended up in the final. Hehe.

And aye, I agree, it was all over one of the worst Eurovisions I've seen in later years (talking performances that is). However the winner of the contest is one of the very best during the contest's history for my part
