Movie Trilogies: Which One is Your Favorite?
Last night when I was watching as Lord of the Rings: Return of the King took almost half of all the awards given out at LA's Kodak Theatre, a girl behind me commented on the sweep by saying that LOTR was, after all, really an amazing piece of work, probably the best job ever done on a trilogy. A guy next to me disagreed: "There've been great trilogies! Star Wars, the Indiana Jones movies ..." which led to a big discussion about the merits of the 2nd, 3rd movies of various series and whether Return of the King was better than Fellowship of the Ring and whether the Peter Jackson series as a whole was better than anything that had been achieved before.
So I thought I would ask to see what people here think about LOTR in terms of other trilogies. Is it really 'the best trilogy ever made'? Choose which you like the best: The Lord of the Rings Indiana Jones The Matrix Star Wars Terminator Back to the Future Three Colors (Red, White, Blue) The Godfather A Film Trilogy (by Ingmar Bergman) Robocop Probably there are a few I'm missing, I know. Harry Potter is not on here because there is no third Harry Potter movie yet. Also not on here are movies that number more than 3, like the Pink Panther movies, the Thin Man movies, the James Bond movies, the Friday the 13th movies, the Rambo movies ... et cetera ... also, ten choices sounded like enough (there are a lot of trilogies out there, it seems). Maybe not all of them are equally known; I've only seen 7 of this 10 but thought I'd give as many options as I could think of. Though if there's a group of three related films you like better or think should be considered, feel free to compare it as well. |

Jee, I thought I'd had 10: I also meant to include The Terminator - whoops.
The LOTR movies make me fall asleep. ( still cannot believe they won for film editing and original song) |

You forgot 'American Pie' and 'Scream'.
I didn't enjoy any of the movies on the poll. Sorry. |

Robocop is a trilogy?
I haven't seen all the movies so I can't vote fairly. Hate Star Wars though |

Back to the Future. The first film is not far off perfect. I first saw it when I was four years old, and it's been my favourite film since. There's not a second of that film that should have been cut, every single piece of dialogue has work to do in the film at large.
The other installments are also marvellous, albeit neither is as quite as pristine as the first. Still, I have a great deal of admiration for the way Back to the Future II weaves itself around the first film. |

I don't know what you consider trilogy but Oliver Stone made three films with Vietnam theme (Platoon, Born on the 4. July, Heaven and Earth). He considered them conected as they cover VW from different sides. Rambo? Naked Gun? |

Voted for LOTR
Not a hard choise to make. I adore all three of the movies and they are each special in their own way. I adore some of the others too.. BTTF being extremely funny and they never lose their charm. Star wars (the first 3) are really cool too. But I really do prefer episode V and the others I only watch once in a while. Episode I being really boring. Godfather movies are great too, but the first one is the one that really stands out. Perhaps the 2nd one too.. Indy - well if it weren't for LOTR |

Terminator brings back some good memories as well.
Nice night for a walk. Nothing clean, right. Your clothes, give them to me now. The 12-gauge autoloader. The 45 long-slide with laser sighting. Phased plasma rifle in 40-watt range. The Uzi nine-millimetre. All. Wrong. Sarah Connor? Fuck you asshole! I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. I was told that she's here. Could I see her, please? Where is she? I'll be back! Give me your address there. Get out. |

I voted for the Three Colours trilogy. I'm a great admirer of Kieslowski and I especially liked Red. Sorry, but the Lord of the Rings just leaves me cold.

I love the Indiana Jones trilogy. I almost love the Back to the Futrue trilogy as much. LotR, is a really excellent trilogy too. I just connect more to Indiana since I saw as a young child. So anytime I watch them, it takes me back to my youth.
