But common, what's so special about Gaga, other than being a very succesful, sonically pleasing marketing tool.
I could list reasons as in, talent. But unless you're a little monster you just don't have any grasp of what makes her special.

That's why I said she's sonically pleasing, and I'd add that she has definitely more talent and wits than anything else that's in the charts at the monent...but she's going against people like Justin freaking Bieber
That doesn't make her an instant classic, her place in pop music history will be tiny.
In my eyes it looks like a fantastic marketing ploy, and the music is not half-bad either.

The question is, will there be a Lady Gaga in 5 years? I very much doubt it.

Or maybe, if she's really that talented in 5 years from now all those washed-up, botox driven starlets like Beyonce, Shakira, Carey, Rihanna etc will be begging her to write them a hit

We shall see, at the moment she can't do anything wrong, Fame Monster was as good an album as the first one.

Do you know how many people said there would be no Lady GaGa in 2010 when she was first signed and started touring in 2008? - Many. And I'm positive that taking away 8 VMA's in one night, plus the countless other awards she's won, playing for the queen, and being the only artist to ever achieve success like she has (for a specific list, just ask) in only two years time will forever cement her place into the world of pop music. Lady GaGa is what our generation will think of as pop music. Talent and commercialism all in one. And finally, I'm not sure WHAT marketing ploy you're referring to - since MTV and other major networks initially refused to play her music, air her videos or even recognize her at all because she was not a priority artist. Look at her growth and her development and study it - you'll find very little of it was due to any marketing at all. The bitch got famous on talent and hard work in an industry that usually did all the work for the "artist". Look at her tours, look at her private life, and study all of her. You'd get it then.

who else is there to win awards though? the current pop scene SUCKS

Yeah, she's quite a character, I don't wanna learn much about her as a person cause that would distract from Lady Gaga the persona, It's like when you don't wanna learn as much about a poet's life, it detracts from your own interpretations of their work.

But she's still American, isn't she

She's hardly a character or assuming a persona. I'm not sure what the American comment was in reference to however?

Not my cup of tea, Told ya that I'm sure in the future she will be honoured as the most influential artist of this millenium, and experts will praise her in all media. Well, if they are still capable of using some understandable language. I see, the difference between man and ape more and more fades away, as we can see, how reduction to the very basics of human needs proceeds, even in art and culture, and Gaga is the groundbreaking outrider of this development. Umtsa-umtsa Ga-ga ooh-la-la! - y'know.

Oh-oh-oh-falalalalala-rah-rah-bang-bang-cha-cha-cha-Gaa-gaa....

The American comment is because I'm European and although I can appreciate her for what she is I prefer Mylène Farmer and t.A.T.u to Lady Gaga, that's all. It's a sensibility thing.
Gaga is probably more but I always preferred the Euro scene

Huge thanks, Ash! Courtney is great! If Gaga ever will think back what she made wrong, she should watch this!

As a side not to this on going argument over Lady Gaga's merits as an artist... I would like to offer up this video of a speech she delivered today in support of repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"... If you question her intelligence, this video will be rather enlightening.

That part with the intelligence escaped my comprehension. Is she, because she is able to hold a speech from sheet after two days of preparation? Ok, I answered this question myself two posts above. Whatever American definition of intelligence is, I think it would have been better if there were some 'cheer-leaders' for the fans, who howled around, just to make sure that they make the right noise at the right time. Probably with posters ("yoohoo", "aaaaw", "whistle", "oooh" etc...). Their sounds didn't quite match the precious monologue of their star.

Anyway, I didn't even understand for which rights she fights. That 'confessing' homosexuals get the same right (uuurgh) to give their lives in countries on the other side of the world to protect (a few) American citizens, who exploit the native population and the ressources of their countries? Yes, that's the most necessary right which gay initiatives should fight for in the USA! *Shakes head* - Intelligent - pffff! Why do I always have the impression that everytime someone holds a political speech, he is convinced that his audience is made up of complete idiots? Well, they must be right, else they would be stoned, whenever they come close to the microphone, with rotten vegetables and... shoes.

I hope someone created a funny flash or java game with Gaga regarding the last appearance at MTV music awards.

I suggest :

You are a lion and you have to pursue and eat Gaga's dressed with food. Enough shoking ?

This video of gaga with the american flag killed me xD
I have seen better looking transvestites lol
The tie is just ridiculous XD
And the glasses...
BTW, is it a joke or is she really serious ?

She is tipically american artist. Don't know how to stop and find a line not to cross.

I always failed to see how so many people think Lady GaGa could have passed as "once a man". I know most people are joking, but there are some people who think it's true.
I guess when she's wearing so many make up and glitter covering her face, she kind of blends with the cross dressing crowd (didn't she even admit that once?) But the girl is like 5 feet tall and normally has a very feminine voice (not to mention how high her voice used to be.) I would be kind of impressed. xD

I use the same smilies in every post.
Manage your waste with a happy face!
I've just noticed the guy in my avatar (Eiji Wentz) kind of looks like a girl. But for your confirmation, it is a guy.

I'd say, she is a joke, but she's not joking. Probably she wanted to be serious, it just didn't work. At least she had enough of her nobrain-fans who had fun with her speech, although she didn't use enough oh-oh's, rah-rah's and falalalala's for them to understand. To her honour I have to say, her repetitive "Go home" at the end of the speech was clear enough for them to know what to do next...

Come on, whatever she is really, she's not a lady!
I'd say it's just fair to joke about her sex. After all it was herself who brought it up even before people asked whether she is or not.

Incorrect.

I also think it's stupid that you're poking fun at her DADT speech.

Haha, I'm in best company! There are some G.Fans here, who beatify any brain cramp of their idol, and there is this Miss G. herself with her followers, who have given back their minds to the Creator long ago. Nowadays it's no more a shame to be stupid.

May I remind you that Gaga went out with her century of dumb cheer-hooters, in a cabaret attire to fight for a handful gay uniform fetishists to play around in a state institution and thereby conjures the constitution? Face it: in the army more than 90% are homophobic and the rest is gay. Did she honestly mean that they all should go home? You can't stop social discrimination by law, not if they are in huge mayority. I guess you didn't serve in the army, but put together your common sense and imagine how the system army functions. You don't need much intellect to understand that some kind of "Don't ask - don't tell" is necessary for the system to work. The whole discussion is just an idiotic publicity gag with no real reason.

So, either Gaga is the most cynical artist I've ever seen, or if she means really what she says, she is even more stupid than I thought she is.

I'm not sure if you understood the video or the speech. "If you don't like it, go home" - was satire based around "Don't ask, don't tell" - and I'm sorry, but I already think you're a complete fucking moron for saying that DADT is "necessary for the system to work" - equality is necessary. You're just talking to hear yourself talk.
