Angry Fhughin' virus... (and other Internet animosities)

Okay, so while the main idea of this thread is to discuss what *exactly* are virus creators thinking when they go and create their babies, I'm also issuing a warning to everyone that spotted me in their contact lists today (11/08/2003) from 4 pm to 5 pm (GMT-6, Mexico City), and to people in general, because I had a virus attacking three of the computers at my office.

It's not a serious virus but in case you get it, don't let it reboot your computer. It's just a minor window that pops up and warns you that NT Authority/SYSTEM will reboot your computer in 60 seconds because something in the computer's protocol has stopped to work. In case it does pop up, don't ignore it! It basically restarts your computer and starts it up without the antivirus working. Shut down your computer while it counts down to :00 and don't start it up again in a while.

So, anyway. The Web is infested with prank virus, Trojan horse virus, and worm virus, not to mention those things that really jump into the international news: prank websites. Anyone ever heard of the Bonsai Kittens?

Lets's discuss on it: who else can remember something in the web that really went macaroni colored?

Yessss.....

viruses suck very much. I recently got when I was D/L music. THe damn thing just put 50 unknown files on my comp which I couldn't get rid of no matter what I did.

I'm not sure what kind of virus this was, but it was fcuking my comp up pretty bad. EATing memory and deleting files off comp as it pleased. It took me 5 different virus programs to get this damn thing. I lost alot of files in the process, and think I was actually lucky I spoted the bogus files when I did.

So be cautious when down loading anything. If you detect you maybe have a virus, check all ur files, to make sure or run a virus detector. Cuz if you dont get it in time, ur pretty much screwed out of alot.

There's also a helpful advice for Kazaa users: instead of Kazaa, install KazaaLite. It's way more secure, doesn't give you as many viruses... :P

my 1st virus experience...

Bonsai Kittens?...

since i got a pc (3 1/2 yrs ago) i was like...what virus? why should i have an antivirus program...it will just slow down my pc...i could never get a virus.....and so on...untill one day (maybe 3-4 months ago) shit started to happen
for about a week i had this problem with this WindowsFileProtection thing...and i reinstalled Windoz a couple of times in just few days...but same thing all the time, and some programs failed to work.....so i decided to install an antivirus program (norton) and when i started scaning, i was like "WTF?!".....the antivirus found around 500-600 infected files that (most of them) had to be erased
they were only .exe files located on my D drive (backup programs and stuff)...
the virus was W32.Pinfi and i will never forget it's name

from that day on, i don't connect to the net till i'm not sure Norton is working
it's been updated almost daily and there's a very little chance that the "incident" will happen again

so, people, take care

Yeah lately, I've had TEN Klez viruses sent to my email in THREE days. I was like "Good God! Thank God I have Norton!"

My FIRST experience was with the FunLove virus. LMAO.

Norton is my bitch though. I love it, even though I may smack it around a bit if it gets out of line.

crni, it's a prank: I was in 8th grade when it happened. It is not serious: it was played by three MIT students, and set the world on fire. It alarmed the Humane Rights Asociation worldwide, the Animal Rights Asociation, about three million people...

I'm angry because that website hasn't been taken off.

Virus creators are a diverse crowd but they fall in four main categories:

Complete idiots: (yes, programmers can be idiots) they like prank jokes and think that a farting microvirus is the coolest thing ever.

Self proclaimed anarchists: they basically hate Microsoft and think that Bill Gates is going to take over the world, their goal is to demonstrate that Microsoft products are crap.

Evil geniuses: they do it for the thrill, the challenge, their goal is to break the most secured systems in the world just to prove to themselves that they are the most intelligent people on the planet.

Hitmen: they do it for the money, they are paid by a company to shut down the system of a competitor.

But the main reason why viruses exist is because they have a body to infect: the Windows operating system. An OS with hundreds of security holes that no one at Microsoft seem in a hurry to fix. As long as Microsoft won't make any efforts to secure its OS, viruses will spread like fire. Of course, one of the main problems is that virus creators are often also Windows programmers...

Ugh, that's just sick. Sites like that the bonzai cat and this may have been made in "good fun," but it really just shows the public how stupid they are

I have to run Ad-Aware every few days to get rid of spyware and Gator software, but I haven't had any problems with viruses after my second computer wipe in a year

Hehe. That background music is so excellent I'm just amazed that they could find six guys to dress up like ninjas.

Thing is some spoof sites are both wonderful and worthwhile. Since nobody knows who you are on the internet, it's great for satire.

Here are my favourites:

Uhm, I found a site of some Anti-Porn Guy thorugh a journal; the girl (journal author) seemed pretty upset about this guy's point of view... So, went there, read it and couldn't help but laugh. Most people just wouldn't get it, but hey... I found it very amusing.

BTW, I also laughed with the Bonsai Kittens site; back when a terrified friend referred me to it. Either I'm not easily impressed or a gut feeling tells me it's just a prank. Who knows, right?
