I like Ewelina Flinta, she was in polish edition of Idol, but she didn't win (she was second). She recorded two great albums.

I always feel an urge to be a spokesman for true norwegian music, and luckily I now discovered this thread So I felt the need to rant abit. Hehe.
Well, Norway is mostly known for our black metal, and since norwegian black metal is a well known, highly valued brand of metal, it's become the biggest cultural export article from Norway. Some bands even manage to sell millions of records (i.e. Dimmu Borgir which is one of the biggest bands from Norway in general. Only Röyksopp and of course a-ha are believed to have sold more than them). Besides Dimmu Borgir, you have the old legends in a band called Mayhem, and Emperor which I saw live at the Inferno Festival, and which I also posted some pictures of, and of course Darkthrone, the real definition of good ol' black metal. Now, I'm not sure how many in here who'll even check out any of these bands, but I just felt like posting this shit anyways That aside, there's a lot of norwegian music that should be "well tasting" for most of you. I already mentioned Röyksopp and a-ha, but the bands Apoptygma Berzerk, Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band, Zeromancer (half Norwegian, half American) or even DumDum Boys could prove themselves to be a pleasure for your ears. Personally I love the album "You and Me Against the World" by Apoptygma Berzerk - Electro poprock at its very best! These bands couldn't be called "native", since it's all electronica, electropop and rock, but Norway hasn't really got a native music genre. We have some native instruments, but few are doing anything constructive and creative with them. Of course, you have the folk rock band Gåte, but yeah, I guess that's it If there is any genre that could truly be called norwegian, I'd say it's black metal, but oh well.. Hehe. I guess you don't play black metal at max volume for tourists who just wants a little piece of norwegian culture, now do you? |

dradeel, we are taking the word 'native' in its broadest sense here, simply meaning 'from your country', as long as the artists are from your country it's all good, they don't have to make ancient traditional music.
