Hmm he's probably getting something off of a LAN (an internal network) which can run @ 100Mbps... either that or he somehow has direct access to an ISP backbone line but thats reallllllly unlikely

oh ok then, just a bit more realistic if it's Mb.

8 Mb (megabits) equals 1 MB (megabyte) so they are a lot different sizes basically

Maybe both. With gigabit ethernet, getting a rate of 100Mb/s is very possible, but unlikely with 100Mb/s ethernet (packet overhead, switching delays, collision if not a fully switched connection, etc. make %80 of theoretical the usual maximum).

What difference a day makes... I remember that in 1997 64K ISDN was nothing more then a wet dream in Slovenia... all of the enthusiast surfers were still on 28,8K / 33,6K fax-modems... I still remember the first modem that I had in 95... a classic UsRobotics at amazing speed of 14,4K

Sorry , made a mistake: it´s 15 Mb/1 Mbit/s upstream
It´s here: http://adsl.free.fr/
You pay 29,90 euros/month and you have adsl 15Mb+ a free phone line for all numbers which are in homes in France 24h/24h + some tv channels http://adsl.free.fr/tv/chaines/liste.html
The problem is that you have to wait about 2 months between your subscrption and the installation of your line.
