new Metallica record

Well I'm pretty disappointed. I havn't liked anything they have done since the black album, and this doesn't change after hearing St. Anger. After all the hype that they were going back to their old sound, I'm totally let down. I don't like nu-metal, which is basically what they were trying to do, and didn't even pull that off very well. There's an occasional good Sabbath-style riff, but on a whole this album is more proof that they are long overdue to call it quits.

All the fan reviews I've read are pretty negative, but the magazines (Rolling Stone, Blender, ETC.) gave it positive reviews. I'm thinking Metalica's record label slipped the mags some bribe money for the good press.

Well I was disappointed by St. Anger. Though I can't say I had high hopes from the start. I mean it’s not “bad” but they're never going to be able to revive the old-school feel again Just never going to be the same as Master of Puppets or other hard classics.

The songs just aren’t hard enough, the lyrics just got too repetitive and what I really missed were solos.. there's NONE No real memorable songs on the album, just not the same…

strange, but I wasn't disappointed at all, and I think the first 4 songs are excellent.

But if the others don't like it, I guess it sucks.

What do you mean it's not heavy enough though? It's like 5 times heavier than Reload.

Of course, I'm waitng to hear other opinions too. St-Anger has gone straight at number 1 here...

I think those who bash the album are either the "new" fans - of stuff like The Memory Remains etc. or the old ones who expected to hear another Ride The Lighting or Master of Puppets. So Metallica did their best to disappoint both

No Kirk's solos and no ballad. Now that I'm listening to their album in full I have to admit that it's not a "classic" ( I was listening to the first 4 songs non-stop for two days but when It came to "Invisible Kid" and on I have to admit I wasn't impressed ). Their album sounds like a heavier Load with some good speed metal parts

I like it though.

As for the bands's campaign to get rid of Napster it annoyed me as well, but if I were Metallica - and I had such a decadent lifestyle - I'd definitely mind the few million $$$

hehe, can i squeeze in one more complaint?

That snare drum! I'm convinced that Lars was just playing on a metal trash can.

It's a very good album, let the doubters say whatever.

St Anger is a classic, so is Frantic...

The DVD with the rehearsals is very cool too.

It's definitely the best album of the "new" Metallica. Those old days will never come back.
