Anybody will be following the French Open this year?
Federer is through 7-5, 7-6, 6-2 ( not so easy then ) vs Hartfield of Argentina Sharapova is currently 6-2, 2-1 up vs brave Washington. Sharapova had to come from 5-2 and 3 match points down to win...pure madness...thought she was definitely out. |

I think the ladies title would go either to Hedin-Hardenne or Hingis. They are both very strong.
Judges P.S. I still don't get what Mauresmo was doing in her match where she lost. The girl played like a newbie for Christ's sake, I definitely don't get it. |

wow, no update in this thread for months.
Anybody watching the Aussie open? Serena used her experience and her opponents' unforced errors ( a mad amount ) to dispose of Nicole Vaidisova ( she reminds me of a gutsier version of Kournikova ie. a bit spineless still. Maybe it's just the age factor? ) Sharapova blew Clijsters away; is Clijsters really retiring at age 23??? I enjoyed the mens game a lot more though, especially Roger making a fool out of RodDICK again and Gonzalez thrashing Nadal ( he's cocky anyway ). Sharapova should have an easy match vs Serena I reckon. She has more firepower...Serena should be over the moon for reaching the final...and can Haas really upset Gonzalez?..needless to say it should be another grand slam for Roger. |

Gonzales has very little chance against Federrer. Sharapova is hot this year and she has balls.
Thanks for updates, taturocks8. |

Williams beats Sharapova to win Open
Unseeded Serena Williams has put women's tennis on red alert, crushing top seed Maria Sharapova to win the Australian Open. In a vintage display of power, Williams erased two injury-plagued years to embarrass the 19-year-old Russian in straight sets 6-1 6-2. She romped through the final from the opening game, spending just 63 minutes on court to claim her third Australian crown after victories in 2003 and 2005. It was the second most comprehensive win in a final in the open era (since 1969, and not including last year's final when Justine Henin-Hardenne retired against Amelie Mauresmo) - eclipsed only by Steffi Graf's 6-0 6-2 win over Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 1994. And Williams became only the second unseeded female to win the championship in the open period since Australia's Chris O'Neill in 1978. As the final point, a winner into an open court, landed, Williams fell onto her back, bounced back and skipped over to her support group before bowing and waving to the crowd. The American thanked her family and entourage but became tearful as she dedicated the win to her late sister Yetunde Price, who was shot in Los Angeles in 2003. "I just love her so much" she said. "A couple of weeks ago I said if I win this I would dedicate it to Yetunde." Williams also thanked her mother Oracene but said she had been "a bad student this fortnight." "I yelled at her and said some things under my breath - but I didn't mean it," she said. Sharapova said she had a feeling Williams would defy the odds and make the final. "You can never underestimate her," Sharapova said. "I know a lot of you never expected her to be in the final but I definitely did. "She's an amazing champion and I look forward to playing her many more times - and winning a few, I hope." Williams made a bright start to the match when she broke the Russian's first service game when Sharapova dumped a return into the net. The American claimed the next game to love to race to a 3-0 lead. She then proceeded to set up three break points in the next game with a cross-court return and broke again with a shot down the line. Sharapova had a solitary break point at 0-5 before Williams saved it and set up two set points in the seventh game, clinching the set 6-1 in 26 minutes. The American began the second set as she had the first, snatching a service break in the very first game. She broke through again to run up a 3-0 lead before Sharapova held serve for 1-4. Williams, who started the tournament ranked 81 in the world, set up three match points in the eighth game with her seventh ace. The pair had met four times previously and were locked at 2-2 in head to head contests. Sharapova famously defeated Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final at the age of just 17. In their last meeting, Williams claimed a rugged 2-6 7-5 8-6 win in the 2005 Australian Open semi-final. Williams pocketed $1,281,000 for her victory while Sharapova banked $640,500 http://au.news.yahoo.com/070106/2/11zat.html |

Yeah Serena played like a female beast ( that she is )
Gonzo was brilliant and he would have won the tournament if he hadn't have to face the mighty Fed-ex. New tennis tournament now is the WTA Gaz Open in Paris with lots of big names participating, including Henin and Mauresmo. The other tournament is the Pattaya open and the lovely Gisela Dulko is in it: http://www.hablemosdetenis.com/media...(ARG).30.1.jpg http://www.latercera.cl/showjpg/0,,1...430_310,00.jpg http://www.corrientesnoticias.com.ar...ulkogisela.jpg http://www.revistanueva.com.ar/00682.../images/Ac.gif http://www.wannahaves.nl/images/imag...la_Dulko/1.jpg http://unmondodisport.blogs.it.euros...ty2004_003.jpg Her boyfriend Speedy Gonzo is a real hot property in tennis right now |

Both Mauresmo and Henin "choked" in the semi of the Paris Open ( won by Petrova who FINALLY beat Safarova - Safarova had beaten 3 top 10 ranking players prior to that, including Vaidisova, Kuznetsova and Henin )
She's gonna be a top 10 ranking player herself soon. Gisela reached the final of the Pattaya Open - only to lose by dropping 3 match points to Austria's Bammer. I don't think she can rival Kournikova in the looks department but she's definitely better looking than the 80% of those man-like females of the WTA tour Men are now taking over with the Marseille, Brazil and San Jose Opens, first round continues today And Moya choked today in the first round of the Brazil open just now, being 1-0 set up and 5-3 in the 2nd but losing to Alves from Brazil 1.4 million dollars on Moya lost by punters... Who said there's no match fixing We also had some Davis Cup matches in the weekend but I wasn't paying much attention to those |
