Channel 4's 100 Worst Songs

Tatu not in here, and quite rightly so. No matter what people have said about their image, there has been general agreement that the music is good.

Fairly certain that Cliff should have beaten the Cheeky Girls, though...

And did David Bowie really do a song called The Laughing Gnome?!

I have to object to the following:

Who Let The Dogs Out? - Baha Men
Macarena - Los Del Rio (I didnt mind it)
We Built This City - Starship (Thats not bad. Plus "This city" is Detroit, not far from where I live)
--------------------------
I have to applaud the following:

Creed not being in there.
My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion
Believe - Cher
Lucky - Britney Spears (okay, she had a couple alright songs, but this isnt one of em)
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice (he bastardized a good Queen tune)
Dirrty - Cristina Aguilera (She's not bad, but this is her worst song ever)
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Middler

There are many singles there that shouldn't be.

Although they don't deserve such a fate I was fully expecting tATu to be on this list. Man, am I glad they missed out on this dubious honour!
On the whole it's not a bad list but I can think of some that they missed.
I don't agree with these being on the list -

Touch Me (I Want Your Body) - Samantha Fox
I know it's a horrible and wrong thing to say but I actually liked this song. It's cool in an uncool 80's school disco kinda way. *hides in shame*
I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meatloaf
Meatloaf is undissable and, though not one of his best, this song is a classic IMO
American Pie - Madonna
Said it before and I'll say it again - better than the original. Does noone on this earth agree with me??!
We Built This City - Starship
Again, a classic.
Ebeneezer Goode - The Shamen
Dubious and terribly unsubtle lyrical message aside, this was a great track in it's day.

What I just don't understand is if it's so widely excepted that the Cheeky Girls and Fast Food Rockers are mind-numblingly crap, why are people still buying their records??!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Do they even cure you...
or is it just to humour us before we die?
I'd rephrase it to "most annoying pop records"
I wanted to say that I can't see "Love Is All Around" there but I just saw it, no. 79.
Now ahem... how come there's no Robbie Williams is there? Or couldn't they choose only one song???
The songs that DON'T deserve the title IMO:
Earth Song - Michael Jackson - Not one of his best efforts but still far from a BAD song... nice message anyway.
The Lady In Red - Chris de Burgh - what's wrong with a little cheesy 80s romance? Nice somber mood. Intimate, passionate athmosphere. I still get a werm fuzzy romantic feeling inside everytime I hear this one.
Hello - Lionel Richie - same as with Chris
We Built This City - Starship - "We build this city on Rock N Roll"...what could be a better statement then this? Besides you can't go wrong with the good old 80s synth driven beat.
Ebony And Ivory - Paul McCartney with Stevie Wonder - OK it's cheesy so what? This is POP. Quality pop. Paul & Stevie sing great together. In perfect harmony.
We Are The World - USA for Africa This was a GREAT song. Writen by Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie (people that write this poll clearly have problems with those two). Done in 1984 by all the imporant stars USA had then. The best USA had to offer back i the good old days. (If they'd do the same today it would be quite scary - probably 40% rapers.
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams... Excuse me? What do this people have against harmless simple love tunes. This was the main theme of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thiefs. I heard songs far cheesier then this that didn't make this list
Barbie Girl - Aqua - behind the bubble-gum facade there lie hidden a criticizm of the "plastic" world in which we live in. The people that made this list obviously overlooked this.
I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meatloaf ... come on!!! Jim Stenman and his epic, dramatic style of song-making rules!!!! He made several classics just like this one in the 80s... like Total Eclipse Of The Heart, Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler... this song is similar
The ones that DO:
Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid II - Covers are so pointless if they're made completely without heart. I think even George Michael who sang in the Original Band Aid didn't like this version saying that todays artists don't even have a clue what or to who they're singing this about or to.
Dirrty - Cristina Aguilera... Is this a song? Or beats enhanced with X-tina vocals and odd barking sounds?
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice - nobody viciously rapes Queen and gets away with it. I cast a spell on you Vanilla Ice!!!!
Candle In The Wind 1997 - Elton John - the day that rock and roll finaly died and became just an obsolete version of other money making machines. Horrid, exploiting, heartless, no sense of common decency...
Jenny From The Block - Jennifer Lopez - The lady that destroied pop. She suffocated this once decent branch of music with rap influences... now everybody's doing it after they saw it works. All todays washed out divas need to do is to get a semi-telented raper to rap over some stupid-refrain song remix they've made when they were bored. It's so easy nowadays. *sighs*
Lucky - Britney Spears ... Why this girl is popular is completely beyond me. There's absolutely nothing appealing on her. This song is her worse effort. Even Max Martin's magic wand doesn't help here.
Girl, You Know It's True - Milli Vanilli ... Besides the fact that they didn't sing their own stuff this song is one of the worst songs of the 80s IMO. "Girl you know it's true, Uh, Uh, Uh, I love you" *throws up*
Hooray Hooray, It's a Holi-Holiday - Boney M ... made by Frank Farian. The same guy who made *points up*..yes MILLI VANILLI. Yay!! Bonnie M were the Milli Vanilli of the 70s except that nobody ever proved they actualy can't sing (the only one with any talent at all was the lead singer Liz Michell, others were just extras). They had some nice dance tunes (Anybody remember El Lute?), but this was their worse effort (and the most odd one as well). Franks cheesy influenca can be clearly felt here... the same one he used a decade later on Milli Vanilli and then in the 90s with La Bouche. Frank Farian... the king of kitsch.
MmmBop - Hanson ... this is childhood exploitation if not even the begining of child-porn at it's most mild and most legalized form.
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston ... Yes, but only because it's a cover of an old 70s country song by Dolly Parton and some other guy. Otherwise Whitney sings well.
I Should Be So Lucky - Kylie Minogue ...the cheesiest 80s could get. Nobody in their wildest dreams thought that this girl will still be around 15 years later. Better then ever. She really is like the wine. Getting better with age.
Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
You'd have to had seen the actual program to see why some of those songs were voted though.
I think the Bryan Adams and Whitney Houston ones were mainly voted in on the strength of the fact that they were No.1 in the UK for weeks and weeks and weeks (also Love is all Around).
A fact that doesn't make them any less feta cheesie
also "Hello" number one for six weeks...I think
Who has the 80s record with nine weeks? it's not in the list, C4 wouldn't dare putting Tatu's famous producer in the list
spyretto, Frankie Goes to Hollywood with Two Tribes. I cheated and looked it up online. I don't think it's possible for songs to have 9 weeks at #1 in the UK nowadays. How things have changed.
That's what I was doing all along I remember Bryan Adam's no 1 for 7 weeks. The first couple of weeks it was like "nice song" after the 4th it was "please make it drop, please!"
It says "Love Is All Around" was number one for 15 weeks and Whitney's for 10. Could this ever be possible?
"Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" the worst Maiden single and their only no 1. I think C4 just took the cheesiest and most annoying number ones to compile the list.
What is "Ebony and Ivory" doing there??? Where is Celine Dion? oh, she's there ok then
spy, 15 weeks?! Jesus! that's 15 x 7 = 105 days! that's almost a 3rd of a year! It makes you wonder how people didn't get sick of it. Or if a backlash started. If Tatu were #1 for 105 days, I would never be able to hear their voices again.
Where's Iron Maiden? They're not on the list I'm looking at...
Stefan Dennis never made it to number one
Glad to see Five's atrocious version of We Will Rock You is on there - rock sacrilege!
Iron Maiden are not there..the song was banned from the radio Just a suggestion as there's no rock or metal in the pop list Busted came close but couldn't quite make it.
And Robbie is not there cause he only had short-lived number 1's. ( after all, it was only MTV playing "Millenium" 15 times a day. )
Who is Stefan Dennis? oh, ok "Neighbours" actor. I see
Bryan Adams was number one for 16 weeks with 'Everything I Do (I Do It For You)'. Even the 'Top of the Pops' producers seemed to get bored of it, cutting his performance so that it was shorter and shorter every week. In the end they seemed to only show a verse and a chorus. Mercifully.
Not that it's really one of the hundred worst songs ever.
