That reminds me of Bowling for Columbine documentary. It said that american society is build on fear. They keep feeding it to people on the news 24/7 so they'd be afraid and paranoid, which would consequeltly make them buy more inffluenced by adds and commercials. Marylin Manson even said that this it's an industry of fear and consumption: the more you're afrad from hearing about everyday horrors from the news, the more you'll be susceptive to consuption of useless goods.
This mail seems just like one small bit from a large plan of mass paranoia.
