This may be true but when I read the statistics that say that 1 out of 3 women has been sexually abused including rape I think it's better that women keep some things in mind, for example when getting the car out of the garage etc..
As long as there are such numbers as the one mentioned above tips on security may help avoiding those numbers to get higher. There's no proof for it but I'd rather be sure that my female friends and family members know about this.
One example: My university lies kinda outside of the city and in the middle of a little wood and there had been many cases of raped women until the university decided to put masses of information-material out and close the area for cars after 9 o'clock, since then the numbers went rapidly down.
