"Goddamn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."
- Tyler Durden
This is precisely why this movie is an insult to men. Those men have comfortable lives but they are pissed because they're not millionaires, rock stars, or movie gods?!? Those men don't feel happy, they are insecure about their manhood so what do they do... They beat each other up! This movie says that men can't adapt to a polished society, they regret the days when you acquired your position in life through brutal force, the pure male society when you could just kill anyone you didn't like, take any woman you wanted, and be admired for that.
This movie taps into the most primitive male instincts, the alpha-male fantasy. "We have no great war", yeah, because war is the natural environment where real men can reveal themselves, slaying your enemies, taking their possessions, raping their women... those were the days when it felt good to be a man!

I don't agree with this vision of men, it's possible to be a man without being violent.
