Yankee or Dixie test

This is really just meant for people in the US, but it'll be interesting if people worldwide take it as well. :done:

Edit, I found a new working link for the quiz http://www.sonicpling.net/misc/yankee-dixie-quiz.html

Of course, Yankee means you're more likely to be from the Northern US, and Dixie meaning you're from the Southern US.

It says I'm "78% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!"

Hmm... I had no idea I was such a country bumpkin... :gigi:

Only people in the South refer to all soda as "coke"?

freddie 24-02-2004 09:06

Apparently my slavic accent resembles the northern folks more. :S

"48% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category."

On Halloween, some kids/teenagers go around doing that as a prank.

People from the rival school also used to TP my old high school during football season.

haku 24-02-2004 09:53

44% Yankee

I did not answer all the questions though because some of them are just WTF? LOL Like:

Don't be hatin'. :D

Actually, a lot of TN words weren't given as answers.
- People just say "shoes" for all kinds of footwear.
- A road along an Interstate is a "dirt trail".
- People can also be addressed as "y'alls".
- A bug that rolls itself up is called a "curly critter".

Jive-ass test don't go no accurate dialect variation anyhow. :D

Unplugged 24-02-2004 16:39

45% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

Hmmmm :heh:

thegurgi 24-02-2004 17:46

Damn you Atlanta....damn you :p

Mossopp 24-02-2004 19:45

I'm 61% Dixie apparently.
They should make a test like this relating to Britain - it'd be hilarious!
BTW, am I the only British person who regularly says "y'all"? :ithink:

Lena410 24-02-2004 20:05

78% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!

hm..whose influence could *that* be...*tries to look as if she had no clue*

I didnt answer half of the questions cause I didnt understand the question or the answer *LOL* *grins* or I went like WTF?! *giggles*

russkayatatu 28-02-2004 22:57

I can't get the link to work :ithink: but it sounds funny :D

I lived in the south and used to order a "regular Coke" to distinguish it from diet and other sodas - I know some people who think that sounds ridiculous :gigi:

Also heard people say 'y'all all,' as in "y'all all better come into the house now" ...

cniaju, 'curly critter'? I know those as 'doodle bugs' :gigi:

Yep. That's how it is here. :) In this area, a "Coke" can be
any soft drink, i.e. Pepsi, Sprite, Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper...

That's said here, too. People also say "all y'all" or "y'alls all". :D

Heh, I like that one. Little doodlies. :D

I don't know if anyone's still interested in taking this quiz, but I found a working link for it and edited it into the first post. :done:

Took the test. Hi-hi, 63% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score! So what now? I couldn't figure out a few definitions there though. :bum:
