Eurovision 2005

Well, I saw forre opened one of those on the Russian forum, so i thought I'd start this one here..... as this year I finally have a reason to watch Eurovision from patriotic stand point, ha ha ha, Bulgaria is participating for a first time. :D

Here is about BG: from reading the online bulgarian news, i found out there are now 12 finalists, and the one holding the first place after lots of people have voted is this: http://www.bulgariancds.com/cgi-bin/...d=791&type=wma (tiny bit of the song) ... and guess what, it is CHALGA  i didint expect anything LESS! Sofi Marinova is one of the 'veteran' chalga singers ... .and a REALLY uglly one as well, but as ANY gypsy, the girl can sing. The guy accompaning her is Slavi, who some of you big t.A.T.u. fans have seen in those 'Tatu in Bulgaria' videos (the tall bald guy, host of the 'Slavi Show', where tatu performed= lipsynched 2 songs) He, if you ask me, is a horrible singer, but never the less is very popular in bulgaria as an actor, tv host, singer, etc - all kinds of entertainment....

...anyways, that song they are proposing, "Edinstveni" = "The only ones" is already in trouble, as it was released on Sofi Marinova's last album, which was out in September of 2004 ... so, I wonder if they will allow it for the contest... anyway... opppppppppppppa, and viva chalga! :10x:

forre 10-02-2005 16:57

For those, who want to have an insight on the Russian selection, there's a place to check for the songs.
1. Go to http://www.eurovision-russia.com/index.htm
2. Choose National selections (left) => a map with the flags will appear.
3. Choose Russian flag => a chart with the semi-finalists will appear.
4. Click on the songs to download.

Sweden have some veterans this year. Veterans of stage and of Eurovision. Among the "celebrities" there are:
1. Ruslana (guest artist)
2. Alcazar (contender)
3. Body Without Organs (contender). Another group of Alexander Bard, who had an enough successful career with his previous groups Army Of Lovers and Vacuum.

According to the critics, Alcazar has all chances to advance to the National final.

P.S. coolie, I saw you browsing the Russian thread, so I wanderred how long time it will take for you to start the English one. Hi-hi ... today, you are sooooo predictible! Thanks for the thread though. ;)

:girl: thank you :rev:

well, I listened to the BG file couple of times, and hmmm, I think this is the begining of the song or something, that website always choses such weird parts of the song, so i hope it does get a bit more exciting ... otherwise it will put people to sleeeeeeeeeep

I will try harder to find a full verion of the song

so forre, you are a 'specialist' on the Eurovision, if the song was released on an album in September of 2004, does this make it 'un-usable' for the contest by the rules?

#2 by the popular vote in Bulgaria is a guy who lived in my neighbourhood and went to my school (same age as me) - his name is Vladi, but in the BG music world he is known as 'Grafa' I must say, he isnt one of my favourites!

for Sweden, noooooooooo, the X-Army of Lovers HAS to win!!! go go forre and vote for them!

Why a "specialist"? :bebebe: Actually, I know a lot about this crappy contest and I really enjoy it as 1. It's a competition (love sports). 2. New crasy songs every year from all over Europe.

If the song was already released in Sptember 2004, it will be disqualified. I wonder why countries announce such songs generally. None at Bulgarian TV has ever read the rules or what? Strange.

 ... well, it figures, but you know how it is in the 'east' ... im sure they will 'find' a way to 'fix' the problem ... or else the horrific Graf will be sining, a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly boring song: http://www.bulgariancds.com/cgi-bin/...ype=wma&id=800 and really put everybody to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

The it should say - a specialist without any "....". ;)
Anyway, we'll see how the story will develop but the earlier BG gets to know about the non-qualification of their entry, the better. Normally, the country has a chance to send another song instead.

nath 10-02-2005 17:49

:epopcorn: We're going soon to eat sausages and drink beer in looking at the pre-selections! Yeah! I love that !!!!....:10x:...I mean to eat sausages and drink beer.. :kwink:

well, I dont understand, the news aknowlwdge that the rules dont permit songs released before Oct 2004, so why arent BNT (the national television) seeing the potential problem?

p.s. and when is the pre-selection? you mean for sweden?

ok. someone better explain this to me.... now each country will choose a finalist ... but some countries are participating in the Eurovision final for sure and some arent? there is Eurovision semi-final? excuse my ignorance ... if so, Bulgaria might not even make it to the final, as I know for sure it wouldnt be one of the sure finalists.

New rules were introduced last year. Before we had relegation system and the countries, that didn't get enough points couldn't simply make it to the contest and had to stay over for 2 years. With the new system, all countries have a chance to compete but since the broadcasting time is limited and the limit is 3 hours for one night - the semi-final has been introduced.

coolasfcuk 10-02-2005 18:08

thanks forre.

and i told you the barberian bulgras will figure out a way to 'FIX' the problem .... googled older BG news to find out this: "Официалното разрешение на дирекция "Авторско право" на Министерството на културата за неговото излизане е издадено през месец ноември 2004 г.
" (in case you can get little of the bulgarian) but basically it says: after the press in BG exposed the song as not-qualifying, because it was put on an album which went on the market in September ... the Ministry of Culture announced that the OFFICIAL permit for release for the album was issued by them in November!
viva eastern europe :10x:

Oh my .. this is getting interesting! So if the Ministry allowed to release the abum in November, does it mean that the album was released unofficially? If released unofficially but by who? If it was an unauthorised official release, the song will be "bustered" anyway. Just a note to Svante and BG will get some publicity! Yeah!

luxxi 10-02-2005 18:26

Slovenia finally selected good song. About time.

 well, if you ask me.. the album was released very officialy at the time, by one of the largest companies in bulgaria - Sunny Music. The 'real offcial' paper, saying it is allowing releasein November, was produced after the fact, so that the song can qualify! :gigi:
"If it was an unauthorised official release, the song will be "bustered" anyway" - by this sentanse you mean that you think it will not be allowed to participate in the contest anyway?

and finally who/what is Svante?

How can you proove that the album was released in Spetember 2004?

Svante Stockselius@ebu.ch is an EBU Supervisor.

The official rules of ESC 2005 say:
Section Five, 2: The entry (lyrics and music) must not have been commercially released and/or publically performed before 1 October 2004.

Adds: Okay, I got the info that the Bulgarian song was released on Aug. 08, 2004. It doesn't matter what papers have been written to legalise the release. If the song has been publically performed (Slavi Show in Aug. 2004) and then released, the case is clear. The song will be disqualified. That's 100%.

spyretto 10-02-2005 21:20

OMG!!! I decided to leave tatysite and you start a ESC thread? I hate you!!!! :D

Can Greece finally send a decent song?

OMG2!! Greece has selected Elena from Antique without any contest whatsoever. But I agree with the choice though I haven't listened to the song. We're definitely gonna get high marks from Sweden and Germany again :p

I don't expect Bulgaria to create a buzz though you never know...maybe first time lucky? ;)

thegurgi 10-02-2005 21:28

Anyone else interested in Watching the Russian Selection on Channel 1? Friday 21:00 Moscow time... WOOT!

Since my own country can't send anything i've chosen Russia as the country i root for, unless someone else sends a kick ass song...

Well (IMO) Poland's songs have always been... well, not good. :/ I listened to their song and I don't like it, like most other Polish songs that have been on Eurovision. They have no.. "spice".. sorry I donno how to explain this.. but it's just the same thing over and over, quite boring in my opinion. :(

I really cant believe that the bulgarian TV people are really THAT stupid... they have the rules in both Bulgarian and English right on THEIR site: http://www.bnt.bg/content/view/full/4348/

ok, im gonna send e-mail to my x-journalist cousin, who will hopefully update me with what the deal is... because the BG media clearly states that 'Slavi and Sofi Marinova will NOT be disqualified"!

p.s. if the bulgarians send those 2 and they indeed do get disqualify ... :blabla: I cant even beging to tell you how typically bulgarian THAT would be.. ha ha ha

p.s.s. forre, maybe you should send an e-mail to that EV official and get the scandal started! ;)

Hi-hi, but it's not my cup of tea - I mean writing to the EBU officials. Then, first the song should be chosen to represent BG in Kiev. At the moment we have 12 finalists and theoretically, any of them can win the BG National final. So, we'll wait for the official results and then see what happens.

:D sounds good enought to me. lets wait til sunday night, thats when the 12 finalists perform and the people vote. but i can almost guarantee that it will be Slavi and Sofi that win :gigi:

It's 19.25 CET (Berlin, Paris, Stockholm .. etc.). - The time is for viewing from Russia. I'm not sure about European Channel One broadcasts, but it looks like they'll be broadcasting with a one-hour delay. Worth to check both 19.25 and 20.20 then.

well, in Russia right now, in Moscow... it's 20:26 .... the show starts at 21:25... so in Approx. 1 hour it starts.... and this is Russia's Channel One ... www.1tv.ru ....

[grrr: i can't get onto the stream, i'm missing it and very upset!]

nath 11-02-2005 20:41

okay i see first song here..Zveri...blablabla..is just what i understood....
n°2 Oksana ..something" is very beautiful but sings to low....so she doesn't have enough power in the voice except in the refran
n°3 "Citi" bof...not bad..not good....neutral...no special shock for me...
n°4 "A SORTIE"...6 girls singing in english "Keep on shinning".......they just sing as an american group ...but it moves a little...a good one....what I prefer right now!
n°5 Lana LIGHT "never never"...may be my ear which doesn't works but seems to sing "false/out of key" in the "couplet"....the song isn't bad...but i don't see winning something....not even the 10th rank...she definitively sings "false"
n°6 Varvara...oh oh she copies the Russlana 's style!!!! direct...in the costums and the style of the song...a good voice , a good song ...my favourite if it wasn't so close from the last year winner...tooo similar...excepted she is blond...
n°7 Tea for Two (written in russian) Чай вдвоём "Lusille is my name" a group of boys...2 guys are singing in a style.... rock?....confused here cause i don't know the names of different styles...you see the style...hum...when the guys they sing with no shirts on their body , leant/leaned over and singing "rauque" as if they were about to dye....a kind of guns and roses about the way to sing ...the song is good...
n°8 "Angelica RouLnishkaya?"...she sings in FRENCH!!!!....the refrain is LALALILALALA...
it's strange it seems i've herad this refrain somewhere...there is a choregraphy and some accords style tango....good...but may be not enough "punch" , even if there is rythm...but the refrain stays in head...
n°9 Be GOOD....bof...dance ...1 girl and guys...rythm...happy ...like in a party , in a fiesta ...but a song as another...
n°10 Natalia PODOL'SKAYA sings in english "nobody hurt no one"....she has VOICE....more than the others excepted the pseudo Ruslana....she sings false sometimes....but she has voice...

i tried to translate russian names so , sorry if there are a lot of mistake...so it's finished now ..people vote...really i don't know which one?!!I would say n°6 Varbara...But the RUSLANA 's problem...n°7 Tea for Two (written in russian)Чай вдвоём, n°10 Natalia PODOL'SKAYA and n°8 "Angelica RouLnishkaya?"...a little original and good way to be on the stage...but i'm sure this song existed before...sure i've heard it before....

The n°1 isn't so bad....but wait and see...the winner will be surely no one of these numbers...§ :p Oh I've forgot the n°4 "A SORTIE"...who was GOOOd ! i liked it ! Da!!!

RESULTS : 10 - 6 - 1 - 4
1/n°10 Natalia PODOL'SKAYA...not sure of the name sorry...
2/n°6 Varvara...
1/ n°1 Zveri...

forre 12-02-2005 00:03

Okay, I heard Varvara and A-Sortie. Varvara was okay but not good enough and A-Sortie had an absolutely monotonous composition, boring to death.

nath, thanks for your report! Good work! :rose:

coolie, I found the full version of "your" song (Slavi Trifonov, Sofi Marinova - Edinstveni). It was an okay song for Eurovision but even if it was an official entry for Kiev, it had little chances to end up at top 15. Sounds a little pathetic and the stage performance doesn't look promising either. Soooorrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ... :ill:

thegurgi 12-02-2005 03:03

According to Sunny Poison, Podolskaya was a shoe in to win as was Varara but very surprised that Zveri didn't do too well....

really wished i could have seen it

nath 12-02-2005 07:58

Forre...Varvara was singing her song with a speeder rythm in her prestation ..

On some super slow server. I tried to find it again but without any success. If you want the song, I have it saved on my comp. Can transfer to you by msn or send it as an e-mail. Well, let me know then. The video - the same story, but I don't have it saved on my comp. Why a strange performance? The guy seems to be so tall and the girl is super tiny. That gave a sort of unproportional view.

thegurgi, Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try on Friday. :)

:D thank forre, but I finally found a site that has all the 12 finalists from bulgaria with links to almost full songs (why wouldnt they put the last few secs of the song beats me!). Here: http://www.bgradio.net/news/story/6828/ if you click on Слушай! you can hear the songs

anyways, the truth is: what a fucking circus - maybe it WAS a better idea if we kept off the contest, so we dont show the rest of Europe how pathetic we really are ... the final turned out catastrophically.... but that's just to top of the cream - the 12 songs in the final are actually HORRIBLE! I honestly CANNOT pick one song that i would want to represent bulgaria ... :( oh well, what can you do

to break it down for you, this is how bulgarians feel: the nation is divided - more than half the population is extremely pissed that Slavi and Sofi Marinova DIDNT win, as they believe those two should've represented bulgaria; the other, less than half the population, believes that Slavi and Sofi Marinova should NEVER represent bulgaria in an international contest. now they are all over message boards (like the link forre provided in her first post here) swearing at eachother - the first claiming that the voting was CORRUPT, the second calling the others 'uneducated idiots' but the truth of the matter is - bulgaria is the one loosing from all of this, and with such horrific songs :( what are the people to do anyway.
God have mecry on us during that semi-final as it will be BAD

forre 14-02-2005 17:03

coolasfcuk, Thanks for the head-ups. So Lorrain is going to Kiev? Oh-ho  The song is too weak, too boring. Nothing to be ashamed of, of course, but such songs don't work for Eurovision.
Direct link to Lorrain is here http://img.bgradio.net/img/pictures/kaffe.mp3

Some adds on the Bulgarian final: (according to Eurovision Kazakhstan)
"Scandalous final in Bulgaria. Slavi Trifonov and Sofi Marinova read statement criticizing BNT organization and mentioning that the voting is fixed in favour of Kaffe (that suddenly about 60000 SMS votes were added in their favour), and withdrew from competition. Some other performers (Kali, Az znam performers, Ustata) has joined statement, but all other songs were performed in full.
The day before the final results were looking like this: Trifonov/Marinova 36.64%, Grafa 18.96%, Ustata 13.48%. Band Kaffe was on fifth place.
We should mention however that despite opposite claims of Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria - song of the duet "Edinstveni" was breaking October 1 rule and should have been disqualified in any case, while Kaffe's entry Lorrain was possibly best song in the competition. That seems that protest was dictated a bit by selfpromotion reasons and we deem such sort of behaviour to be unprofessional, as first performer should show what they are capable of, and then criticize others. "

ah ha , YES, that's the one  booooooooooooooooooooooooring! lol
I wouldnt mind Kaffe performing life while I was sipping a martiny at a hip bulgarian bar after work, while chatting to friends ... but its gonna put the TV viewrs to sleeeeeeeeeeeeep :blabla:
The Slavi supporters say that the sms votes were 'fixed' and Kaffe was on the bottom of the 12 finalists 2-3 hours before the end of voting, and in those 2-3 hours they MADE-UP over 60 000 sms  spending over 50 000 bulgarian leva just so they can win, but buying lots of sim cards and having over 100 people constantly sms for them
Here is direct link to Slavi Teifonov and Sofi Marinova song which took second place without even performing http://img.bgradio.net/img/pictures/slavinova.mp3, which goes to show you that Slavi knows how to manipulate the bulgarian population  Even though this one is booooooooooorning too, as it doesnt have the true chalga kick I was hoping for, at least with it they could've gotten some belly dancers or true bulgarian folk dancers that walk on fire or something to make a show - now i dont see how Kaffe can make that up, but stay STIFF on the stage and snoooooooooore!!!

now if you ask me, I would put couple 30 sec vid samples of WHO i think should've represented BG at Eurovision, as we've already showed ourselves as 'ridiculous' to Europe, why not let Azis (the most selling BG artist - gypsy transvestite that sings hardcore CHALGA)!!!!

Here he is doing duet with that same Sofi Marinova: http://www.bulgariancds.com/cgi-bin/...ype=wmv&id=426
Here he is in duet with DesiSlava: http://www.bulgariancds.com/cgi-bin/...ype=wmv&id=946

edit: ah ha, while i was looking up AZIS songs forre summed it up in the quote - Slavi is attention hungry as his popularity has been DECLINING in the last year :gigi:

forre 14-02-2005 18:18

Despite of all our preferences, there's a fact that the majority of the countries-participants are from former socialistic block. There are many slavic countries and all ex-soviet. It means that the voting will be done in favour of those countries. There are not only political reasons but cultural too. For instance, for Russian people, it's easier to absorb Polish or Bulgarian tunes than Turkish. See what I mean? ;)

ok, I finally listened to the so-far qualified Russians from forre's link, and I have to say that if not all, most of those songs are way better for Eurovision than any of the BG ones

I do like the Varvara and her 'chalgaish' song - with what forre said, I can see bulgarians voting for this song :gigi: and even better if the girl is blondeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :p

i also like that it sounds really Russian/East Euro
