You can also get information on this new worm here:
http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.c...articleid=2420

They have a removal tool here to kill the worm:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html

I'll add that this worm does not affect Mac OS X, so if you are on a Mac, chill out. :)

well, not a final update on 'my case', but... on monday started working on the mac daily (and for whole day), so ... we called a comp guy and he said it is most likely RAM chip problem :hmmm: gave some program to run and see... will do that tomorrow, if it's that - YEY just gotta figure out which one of the 3 and replace it.. if not :hmmm: ...we might have to buy a new mac - which is again YEY for me, but I dont think Jeff (the guy I work for) wants to spend that much money.... wish me luck tomorrow...

btw it hasnt crashed that much lately... but i think because i havent been running programs that require lots of memory :dknow:

Description and the fix/removal resources at http://www.norman.com/virus_info/w32_mydoom_a_mm.shtml - ...: Thanks, denial. :rose:
(scroll to the bottom for the fix)

Doesn't seem like a big deal to remove it from the system. Thanks to all for the alerts.

denial 28-01-2004 17:04

Nath, YES it is. Delete the email. Do not try to open the file. Scan your computer. Read above intructions. And then read Microsoft AntiVirus Alert advice. LoL

btw .. Nath that person not stupid.. its even not necessary the person on the from: that send the file. The virus does many trick with your address book and also it try to guess email address. ..urr .. I scan read the articles. LoL

Thanks to Microsoft .. this virus senerio seem to help in human brain developement.

Raise the challenge!

Added:

Btw Nath .. maybe you want to ask your ISP if they have the anti-virus program install on the email server. Most ISP have that now. So the virus file will be filtered first at mail server before it reach you. I have to pay extra RM1 for that service.

For for web base email like yahoo.. they already have that ..

Get that tongue back in that french mouth of yours, Nath. You're sticking it out to a ghost. To cover their tracks and avoid getting arrested, most virus spreaders take an innocent computer "hostage" (or more) and send massive spam mail from there. So the poor person you're getting a mail from hasn't got the fault. :P

Or perhaps install one of the free one. I used avast for a while. www.avast.com - free for home use. But it's not the best antivirus program out there. I use norton myself. Also tried mcafee (<-spelling?) and panda. I like Norton the best though.

Since I have a hotmail as my regular mail that one is scanned twice. Mcafee is already installed by Microsoft, and then norton will scan it too when the mail gets to outlook express. Pretty safe I hope :p

Also a free Antivirus at

www.grisoft.com which you can update for free as well!!

I use it and it seems pretty good!!!
Just go to AVG Free version when you're on the page!!!

Mossopp 30-01-2004 19:08

Can someone please clarify for me that the only way to get mydoom is via email? I remember someone telling me the only way I could get the Blaster virus was via email. But I never opened any emails whatsoever and I still got the fucking worm! That thing made my life a misery, I can tell you!

teeny 30-01-2004 20:15

Mossopp, as far as I know/heard so far it only speads via email. But keep your antivirus program updated just in case;)

QueenBee 30-01-2004 20:24

<--- Doesn't even have an anti virus program. :gigi:

teeny 30-01-2004 20:37

oi.. brave girl, qb.. foolish, but brave :p

QueenBee 30-01-2004 20:40

TLFdk, aaah yes.. ;) I get pissed off when I lose all my files after getting a virus.. I checked online virus scan and I have a worm and a couple of viruses.. And I sit here not minding.. :none: Oh well.. Must put those important files on CD.. *Reminds herself*

Kappa 30-01-2004 20:56

False, Tina: the Blaster worm travels from IP to IP by means of your connection, and it affects your KeyReg only. Actually more people got it this way than on the email, since up to where I know Blaster wasn't an executable file, just a worm that kept on going and going. :P

MyDoom, you do get it in the email. I never open mails from unknown people since the list of email transmitted viruses is ridiculously huge. Be careful.

QueenBee. Seriously. *Smacks Queenie up the head.* You've got spare money to buy a new HD?

teeny 30-01-2004 21:03

darje: I was talking about the new one. Not blaster. So not so false. Sorry for not making it clear though :rose:

And yeah blaster spread wide in no time. Most people I know got it. I didn't though my computer overheated a lot in that period so I actually thought I got it.

goku 30-01-2004 22:54

Haha, I like your style QueenBee. Reckless. :heh:

Unfortunately, replacing my modded comps is not only sad but hurts the wallet, so I can't afford to not have virus scanners.

Kappa 30-01-2004 23:32

goku, you mod computers? Nifty! :D What do you mod, innards or cases?

Mossopp 30-01-2004 23:52

Thanks for the info, people.
I don't have an anti-virus program but I do have Firewall enabled (not that I actually know what that means and it probably does fuck all anyway!). I never open email attachments unless I know for a fact who sent 'em to me and that they're genuine anyway. So *fingers crossed* hopefully I'll be ok.
