Remember this year's MTV Europe Music Awards presenter Sacha Baron Cohen AKA Ali G AKA Borat Sagdiyev? I guess it was just a matter of time before Kazakh goverment would start threatening him with legal action ...

...and here it is... (http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20051115/en_celeb_eo/17770)

Me too. He rawks. And Kazakh goverment will sure look very rigid infront of an international community bitching over this. I mean if everyone Americans are stereotypicaly presented on an international as stupid, fat rednecks their goverment would protest we'd have an international incident every other day. Same goes for the stereotypically arrogant and self-involved french, heart-breaker latinos (like Spaniards, Italians...), cold and distant scandinavians, drunkard slavics... the list could go on and on.

I don't mind for over-the-top comedians (or else I wouldn't love Christopher Titus the way I do) but it usually gets boring when you can see the jokes coming from half a mile. They replayed the EMA's here and I made an effort to stay awake till Tatu was on, then shut off the TV because I would've barfed if I saw Borat again.

he was absolutely beyond common sensical limits! he was appalling. i have a very broad sense of humour, trust me. yet this Borat character did not even make me smile. i was just... staring :spy: Chris Martin with his lost pants was funny though!

Obviously the Kazakhstan government have got too much time on their hands  And also lots of money to waste - legal action isn't cheap.

Interestingly according to imdb "in contrast to his characters, Sasha is a soft-spoken, gentlemanly Cambridge man who considered pursuing a PhD before going into comedy."

Imagine that. :p

......After finally watching about 1/5 of the show I'm not surprised the Kazakh government threatened with legal action or whatever.
If similar material was used to "satirise" say, France or England that would probably create a diplomatic incident.
I don't know what his point was but yeah, we got the joke first time around anyway.
