I have closed the other thread and started a new one as I'm sure lots of people have changed connections since they first posted in that thread.

Please vote again :)

Currently I'm on a 1Mbit/256Kbit ADSL. I'm expecting this line to be upgraded to VDSL for the same price to a 10Mbit/5Mbit VDSL before the year ends.

Europe is just stupid. In SE Asia everything is wireless, you can literally surf the internet with your laptop from the airport or the uni.

oh I'm down to 2meg/256K, 3 meg was just a useless luxury ;)

3 Mbit/s down, 500 kbit/s up. I might be changing to 3.5 Mbit/s down and 350 kbit/s up sooner or later. It's my dad that want some changes around the house, so that includes the bb as well. Heh.

Those ASSHOLES were charging me the same money for 2 meg as they charge new customers for 4....hmmm assholes

Never mind, sorted :)

excuse the use of the word "charge". I was a bit carried away there :(

I am using 10Mbit/10Mbit
I might be changing to some higher speed connection later
some ISP's providing 100Mbit/100Mbit or even 1000Mbit/1000Mbit for professionals

Rachel

Arghhhhh, oh things I'd do to have your connection right now!!

the internet service providers here are competing with their speed
like a year ago, the fastest speed was like 6M/640k
but people are switching to 100M/100M now
the advertisment's saying that using a 100M connection and download a HQ movie within 2 mins

I’m lucky if I get 60kb/s download speeds.

Rachel

Hmmm...weird...I'm getting 1.80mb/s today...

Yesterday I was only getting 5kb/s...

Still not anywhere near the 4.5mb I should be getting but hopefully that should get sorted once my router is all sorted out.

I use www.speakeasy.net/speedtest as a synthetic test. It's pretty well known in america. of course you probably have to be in the usa to get accurate results as the servers are located here. Again these are just theoretical numbers. You'll never really get that good of a connection to a normal server.

exileut, I tried it and I got different results everytime... :dknow:

exileut, I tried it and I got different results everytime... :dknow:

well make sure every possible program that uses the internet is closed other than the test itself
Also run like 5 tests and get the average
My download did vary some about 8500 - 9200
but my upload was exactly 351 every time

I think your best bet for server is New York
But thats still like 5000-6000 miles away
I have no idea how accurate the results would be

Rachel

I get my most accurate result here (http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp).

My results:
Downstream 197.1 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )
Upstream 131.1 Kbps ( = 0.1 Mbps )

How unbelievably slow is that?! :bum: I'm sure it's supposed to be faster than that.

my results :
Download Speed: 989 kbps (123.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 352 kbps (44 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm surprised I think my connection would be faster :p
