View Full Version : "Brokeback Mountain" - A love story between two cowboys

Kate

Synopsis: A ranch hand and a rodeo rider meet during the summer of 1963 and begin a brief, passionate relationship that reveals a love that sustains itself through the rest of their lives.

I saw the trailer on Movies.com (here (http://movies.go.com/movies/movie?name=brokebackmountain_2004&genre=drama&studio=TBA)), and it nearly made me cry.

You simply have to go see this movie! It already won the top prize, Golden Lion, at the Venice Film Festival!!

Personally, I won't miss it for the world. :D It has Jake Gyllenhaal in it, that's a good enough reason to go on its own. Lol.

Of all the actors to play gay, those are 2 actors that I would've *never* guessed to play the part!!!! Jake & Heath are just so freaken hot, I never thought they'd ever kiss a guy! Wow! Looks good...don't know when I can see it though. Can't see that movie with any of my friends here. :(

The American premiere is in December, and it's released worldwide starting January 2006.

Definitely something to look forward to. I hope it will be shown on the big screen here, but not getting my hopes too high as it deals with the *whispers* gay issue
Then again, I hope it'll be available for download :gigi:

yeh i saw the preview for this movie.

Am i the only one who WASN'T to see that this is what cowboys get up to ;) its like the whole catholic school girl orgy myth.

Anyway..Ang Lee putting his name on a movie about the american cowboys...odd or just plain freaky!

Apparently there was supposed to be a love scene in this but studio execs halted that. Ang Lee said instead that film would allude to sex through sheep herding or some sh!t.
My mind went to a very naughty place when I first read that.

My brother tried to see this at the Toronto Film Festival but all screenings were sold out.

 mine too! :spy:

i did read something about hot kissing. i mean seeing those boys kiss... :liplick: not a big fan of either, but together they'd look great for sure! :D

and to think that Colin Farrell and Josh Hartnett were offered the roles, but they turned them down, obviously... oh, the things i see in my mind's eye!

The Brokeback Mountain site is official up, and includes some new photos and wallpapers along with it. Apparently there is a lot more coming soon, including movie clips.

Should be good, it's based on my mentor Annie Proulx's short story. The short story itself is pretty humane despite the hard sex scenes in it.
Good advertisement for gay rights and shit.

Maybe, but I've heard that some people think this movie has Academy Award written all over it... We'll have to wait and see.

I saw the Underworld trailer when I went to see Saw 2 and I couldn't agree with you more. Kate Beckinsale is effing sexy in those leathers. It comes out on January 6, 2006 here in the states and I'm definitely going to see it.

oh i checked and checked and checked... and it seems they're not bringing this movie in my country. just like with 'monster' and 'boys don't cry' - they only bring this 'kind' of movies if they get oscars. so looks like i'm gonna be rooting for 'brokeback mountain' to get an oscar in order for me to see it in 4 months' time. great. and i was so looking forward to it :none:

awwww... if it makes you feel any better I'll tell you the ending :gigi:

Actually I liked the story, but the movie itself was too long. And I've seen Heath Ledger do better acting for sure.

7/10 is my rating I think.

its rare that i dont want to find out the ending for a movie beforehand, and this is one of those cases ;) but i do have a feeling it's a sad ending.

btw, i got the full soundtrack in excellent quality (320 kbps). i'm geting bits and pieces of the movie, but not the film itself. i'm absolutely DYING to see it. i see the romanian press is starting to consider it what with its golden globe nominations. come on, bring it to romania... come ooooooonnnnnnnn :bebebe:

What version did you see? Though there wasn't any nudity (GOD DAMNIT!!!!) the one scene right after Ennis shoves Jack after finding his arm around him does, I believe, constitute a sex scene. Not all sex scenes have nudity, unfortunately, gay and straight.

I live in a *very* conservative part of Virginia. Damn rednecks. My town used to seriously be named "Hell Town" if that gives you an idea of how backwards some of the people here are. *rolls eyes* The sad thing is, I'm only an hour & half from DC and the people are still backwards republicans, for the most part!

I just saw the movie on my computer (real good quality DVDRip) and my computer desk is littered with Kleenex. The acting was... one word - superb. And towards the end I was crying so much that I hardly payed attention to the movie itself. This is the first movie that got me crying this bad since... well, actually, this is the first one.

Anyways, it's #1 on my "Best Movies I've Ever Seen" list. It's just fantabulous!! Anyone who appreciates a good movie simply HAS to see it.

Yeah unfortunately I was only in MI for the summer. LOL @ 'the south'! But Oy @ movin to DC! Nooooo thanks there. I've been to DC a few times & I don't really like it. The only big city I've ever felt comfortable in was Toronto. I went to my first gay bar there (on accident! LOL) & just absolutely loved the city. I can't wait to go back there one day!

Kate, WOW, such strong emotion!!! I *really* wanna see this movie, but I didn't want to download it...gahhhhhh, can the government blame me for downloading if the cinemas in my area refuse to show it??

yes, it says a few times that it's "intended for awards consideration only", so there you go.

anyway, i saw it and it was quite splendid if i do say so myself. full of emotion, an 'atmospheric' movie. it gradually grabs you and doesn't let you go until the end when you might shed a tear or two. the actors did a fantastic job (all of them, not just the guys). what's really great is that the film follows the short story pretty damn well.

ps if anyone wants the short story, i'll upload it.

and i uploaded the short story anyway. it helps a lot especially if you can't understand what Ennis is saying in some parts ;) Annie Proulx - Brokeback Mountain (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YNHLTCT8).

EDIT: forgot to say i even love the soundtrack to this movie. i'm no fan of country music, but these songs are damn good! i especially love "the maker makes" by Rufus Wainwright (hence my sig). but all the others are great, i dont skip anything.

Some good news: The film Brokeback Mountain was stuffed in the Oscars, losing best picture to some obscure film called Crash. ;)
But Ang Lee wins best director, which is fair & square in my book...that film didn't deserve to win best picture.

I want to KILL someone over Brokeback Mountain ! That film was so groundbreaking and beautiful on many levels ....totally unfair.

Film has very much liked me, but as it seems to me - in him practically there is no music...
And in fact music could make film by even more dramatic!

It is a pity, by the way, that for " the Best film" he and has not received OSCAR!

The most apt description of the entire movie I have ever read. I think that movie only made me slightly more racist.
:p

But I don't think Brokeback Mountain was all that good either, imho. The Oscar should've gone to Good Night and Good Luck or maybe even Munich, despite it being directed by Speilberg.

well, i'd go see Crash only for that gorgeous Ryan Phillippe :D
i was pissed off it won though. but i'm guessing it's better than Munich winning, for example, cos THAT right there was such a crappy movie! omg, i couldn't belive it. i thought it would be emotional to say the least, but it was just an action movie. sort of like those Van Damme films: "my people were killed, i'm gonna kill the killers!" i expected more. the only shocking thing about it was the way they killed that hitwoman, how she didn't die instantly... that whole scene was terrible to watch. the rest was blah

spyretto

Yeah, I saw Crash yesterday, it was lovely...in a bad way. Would normally turn it off after 10 minutes but I kept on watching because it won best picture, whatever that means.
There have been some stinkers winning best picture over the years but that film must top them all. it makes you feel bad for being human.
Haven't seen Munich yet and I don't think I'll do any time soon, considering Crash. Back to independents/European/World cinema for me...and of course anime ;)
