So? Anyone? ... It is now only 11 days until the first game :10x: ... anyone else as crazy about the tournament as me? :gigi:

England and Netherlands are playing friendlies today - starting with their main lineups ... and the teams in our group are doing soooooo well :hmmm: esp Italy.

Of course I will be madly supporting Bulgaria, but in addition all Eastern European teams ! :D this time they arent that many LoL .. and I always go for Sweden (excuding their game against Bulgaria) and England :coctail: ... am I yet to chose favourite outsider team. There is always one that does well.... ah ha... I hope this year it will be Bulgaria :gigi: ....

so should we make predictions for the groups?

Well actually I don't even like soccer. Don't play, don't watch the usual national games on TV.

But when it comes to Euro and World tournaments, I'm always glued to the TV... I guess it's the good old "my country vs other countries" formula, never fails  ;)

I'm really excited this year cause it's gonna be in my country and I'm gonna live it all directly from where it's happening... So the news will all be about what's happening in my country, reporting live from my country, etc  And besides that, there will be lots of blonde hotties coming to visit :coctail:

Bad thing: the subway is gonna be so packed, I don't know how I'm gonna survive every morning making my way to school

Well, Portugal is in Group A (together with Spain, Greece and Russia - maybe tATu will come for a visit when Russia plays and make out on the field to distract the opponents :heh: ), and the 1st game will be easy - Portugal vs Spain. We'll get through the 1st stage. Now, the 2nd stage... That's harder. Especially with France, The Netherlands, Italy, Germany and even England... :bum:

ok, ill make some predictions... but beware.,... i am fickle, so soon i will come and change them probably ....

1.Spain
2.Portugal
3.Russia
4.Greece

Group B:

1.France
2.England
3.Croatia
4.Switzerland
(although I hope Croatia goes fwd... instead of France :blabla: )

Group C:

1.Bulgaria
2.Sweden
3.Italy
4.Denmark
( sorry, but thats how i WANT the standings to be, although i do realize they probably wont be .. oh well... ill leave it like that for now, just cause it looks so good :gigi: )

Group D:

1.Germany
2.Czech Republic
3.Netherlands
4.Latvia

and last Tournament in 2000 in Belgium/Netherlands ... sweden had 2 games lost and one tie hihihiiiii and Denmark had 3 games lost hihihiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.. Italy had 3 wins in the groups though! .... well, i should shut up cause at least they were THERE LoL

c rrrrrright :D... italy (unfortunatly), then sweden...

Well being from a country that shares a border with England i honestly couldn't be doing with them winning ANYTHING!It's bad enough that we're still getting 1966 rammed down our throats constantly as well as Beckham making major headline news if he so much as spills his dinner down his jumper(remember his broken toe before Japan in 2002 that made Parliament for f*ck sake)
In their group i think France will win it as they're just too good for the rest of them!
England v Croatia will be a key game in that group i think.I don't know much about the current Croatia side but Eastern European teams are always technically better than British teams. To me this England side have too many individuals and too many sh*t players.Sorry guys but folk like David James and John Terry could be a liability at this level!
Switzerland won't do much!
From the other groups i think Portugal will do well as will Czech Republic,Italy and possibly Sweden with Larsson back!
Spain should do well but always disappoint!
I would love to se Latvia do well and hope Holland do well as they hammered us in the play offs!!

and that means...?

"Go, team!" ? haha

:D something like that, yeah. that's just one of the things bulgarians cheer at football games.

'aide' is slangish for 'haide' = 'lets goooooo'
'nash'te' slangish for 'nashite' = "ours"

so, there is no dirrect translation... something like: "goooooooooooo ours!!!" ... and score, or else :nunu: LoL

...so how about for your teams? it'd be fun to know what other countries yell.. and then when we watch the games we can listen for the people yelling those phrases :gigi:

anyone?

edit: we also say this one a lot: "Bulgari Iunatsi!!!"

'iunatsi' is plural for.....something like a very strong/patriotic guy - sort of a 'hero' :gigi:

edit 2: oh, let me tell you a story about that one.... when we pronaunce 'iunatsi' it sounds like 'you nazzi' in English ! ... so when i was watching a Euro 4 years ago .. cheering my team like that..... my friends were like  whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? took a bit of explanation to explain to them, since they were in a bit of a shock! since then i dont cheer my team in USA ;) ... at least not like THAT

Some EURO 2004 curiosities ;)

GAY CONTROVERSY
England is the team which will be supported by the homosexual community of Croatia. All because the coach of the national croatian team severely criticized gay people, accusing them of being "a dangerous influence for young people", and guaranteed he won't accept any gay players. Also, he admitted some men who were in charge of massaging the team players were fired because of allegedly being gay. Therefore, the croatian gay community has decided not to support their country, accusing them of being homophobic, and will support England instead.

A BREAK TO GET MARRIED
Bulgaria was forced to interrupt its training so that its team player Vladimir Manchev could... get married! All the team attended the ceremony and afterwards everybody returned to the field and continued practicing. Manchev had the right to have the day off to celebrate the moment alone with his wife. Honeymoon, though, will only take place after the Euro 2004!

AN HOUR OF SEXUAL PLEASURE
The italian players have been given permission by their coach to have one hour of sex every day during the competition. The italians' lovers can join their room every night, but a timer will control the time they can spend there - only 60 minutes. But how will the coach react if the players get carried away and spend more time having sex? We'll see about that!

DANISH COWS: OUT!
While managing to qualify for the Euro 2004, Denmark won its match with Romania. For that reason, a group of romanian farmers got angry and cancelled 10 danish cows they had ordered for their farm.

EXPLOSIONS WERE HEARD...
In Romania, shortly after the team having lost the match with Denmark, a few minor explosions were heard in the region of Lasi. The danish team scored one goal on the 95th minute, which made many people of Lasi get very angry. After an investigation, the local police found out that there weren't any bombs exploding, but instead several people had grabbed their TV sets and thrown them away, breaking them and destroying them.

NO PORN FOR ENGLAND
The english team doesn't have access to many pleasures doing the Euro. Music, DVDs and access to a library are some of the extras which were granted to them. But still, when it comes to movies, the team was forbidden to watch porn flicks - comedy was the most selected movie genre for the national team, only with a few exceptions like "The Lord of The Rings" trilogy.

P(ET)IT BULL?
The good mood of the portuguese players is very noticeable, and Rui Costa seems to be the funniest guy in the team. He started teasing his team mate Petit when he entered the field with a black eye and had everybody laughing as he made up several hilarious excuses for his little 'accident'. Petit laughed and smilled and said there were no worries "It's ok, I don't have a pretty face anyway, it's not like I'm going to disappoint my non-existent female fans", he said. Maybe this is why the player has the nick name of "Pit Bull"? Although he hasn't bitten anyone... so far.

Yeah, no shit! They only started to speed up in the last 20 minutes... Oh, and I don't know if you noticed, but during most of the game, whenever there was someone from our team in the front trying to score, almost all the other players were in the back of the field, there was no one to help up there! :dknow: Especially in the 1st part, that was AWFUL! Insulting... The team wasn't sincronized at all, only at the end they started to be more united! :bebebe:

Deco and Christiano Ronaldo should have played from the start. Baia should be there for Ricardo, and then you don't put small and short defenders marking big and strong strikers. Great mismatch there.
Yeah, Baía was and always will be better than Ricardo, no matter how old he is! Everyone got mad at him because of the World Cup, but so what! Look at our team now... it's even worse!... We could use at least a good goalkeeper like him!
And yeah, Deco and Christiano Ronaldo were trying really hard, unlike the other ones in the 1st part :bebebe: Figo was 'medium', like usually - it's like "Yeah, I'm gonna try, but not too hard. I already have my reputation"

Spain was better than Portugal, that's true... but I think that with new strategy and more training we can do it. I'm supporting France against England tomorrow (probably) - I've supported France off and on (mostly on) since I was 10 years old. There's a dark side to English nationalism which disturbs me, and I find it hard to embrace the England football squad. At work last night, you had people shouting "Fucking French Wankers!" and "I hate those fucking French bastards!" (probably partly to needle me) - it's not big and it's not clever. I have got to go to work tomorrow night and I am in a no-win situation. We are allowed to take the two hours off for the duration of the match - most people will no doubt go to the pub to watch it, which means they'll be half-drunk by the time they get back to work. If England win, I'll have people in my face all night; if France win, they'll be bitter and might turn nasty...Let's just say I'm steeling myself for the worst...Royal Mail can be a pretty uncomfortable workplace sometimes; if you are not a white male who plays football, drinks, owns a huge porn collection and thinks all this country's problems are down to immigrants...

I can't belive Portugal lost. This is ridiculous. They were my favourites this year. European Brazilians. Sheesh. I highly doubt they'll make it pass group stage now. And Figo is apparently beyond his best years by now. Real Madrid sucked the life out of him. Greeks are better then I thought though. Solid defending definitely.

Russia, Spain was no surprise really. A well earned victory. Spaniards had the upper hand throughout the match. I was a little disapointed by Raul though. They should get even better during the next few games.

I'll be happy for anyone who wins the championship though. As long as it's not Germany or France. No offence to German & French folks. :p

Predictions for today: Switzerland - Croatia = Croatia is the favourite, but don't underestimate the Swiss. No Tudor for Croatia though. And the main goalkeeper is missing. That could be quite crucial.

France - England = Sadly France. England proved time and time again they were just not meant to be succesful at major championships. Murphy's laws I guess. :/
British media once again proved to be as idiotic as it gets with their quasi-proclamations of war against France and everything French. Sheesh. Give me a break. I can allready see all the partiotic Brits smashing their Renaults, Peugeots & Citroens.

nothing to say really... we had no real chances and our strikers sucked big time:(
the referee criteria was (once again) awfull and very variable... and i didn't say biased, just wierd...

Now, for some bad news. Starring the english fans, of course

CONFRONTATIONS HAVE STARTED
English fans ruin portuguese celebrations

Last night english troublemakers gathered in the main square of Lisbon, Rossio, and attacked the members of a marching band which were going back home on a bus, after competing for the best march in the 72th annual Popular Parades. English fans throwed pepper spray onto the bus in which teenagers and small children were travelling, and caused breathing problems to several people. After the incident, confrontations started between the english and the portuguese. The police arrested several english, one of them will be taken to court.
The members of the marching band were then transported back to their neighbourhood and several ambulances were called. "It was a big mess, people started running, screaming, rubbing their eyes, there were bottles thrown, it was a mess!", Pascal Combefreyroux, a french fan, said. On the other hand, the english fan Michael Gallaway said people started to get scared only because the portuguese police had loaded weapons.

MORE DISTURBANCES EXPECTED

Tonight is the big game between France and England. The portuguese police has set up their biggest security operation ever to prevent further disturbances. Many english fans spent the afternoon getting drunk at the local bars near Estadio da Luz where the match will take place, and if England loses, major confrontations are expected. Besides all this, the portuguese police has also been informed by the british police that there are chances that several dangerous english hooligans might have managed to fly to Lisbon.

IF THE MESS CONTINUES, ENGLAND MIGHT GET KICKED OFF
An UEFA spokesman announced that if the english supporters continue to cause trouble and disturbances in the european championship, they suffer the risk of UEFA denying the participation of England in the next Euro.

I think Bulgaria is cursed when playing with the Swedes. They lost 4:0 in the USA World Cup 94 ... to be honest they played better then that. They deserved AT LEAST to lose by 2 goals only. :D But that's what happens in when you give up in such a fashion 30 minutes before the end. o_0

Italy - Denmark was the best 0:0 game I've seen in a while. Not boring at all. Both goalkeepers were simply awesome.

I tell you one thing though... I like the Latvians. They remind me so much of us when we played in Euro2000... fighting underdogs. Of course Czechs were much better then them but still they had pretty good chances to win. And fought to the end. Unlike some south slavics I know. *coughs*

Anyways... everyone has bad games... and our against Sweden are ALWAYS horrible.... so i hope its really true, and even if we dont continue... i hope that AT LEAST the other 2 games we dont play so embarrasing and at least go away with some dignity!

About the game last night - Ger : Hol ... everyone saying its one of the BIG games... im sorry but it was just a bit boring for me, not bad, but not TOP class game. Dont think with such play any of those 2 teams will win the tournament.

Good game! Still many mistakes, but if Scollari keeps fixing the team in the meanwhile and preparing them - it was a HUGE change from the game with Greece, and not only because Russia was weaker, but because the portuguese team was more united, and the 'stars' like Figo worked a lot more than before. Still, Cristiano Ronaldo should've been there from the start. He's the one with all the creativity!

so anyway... i heard that even Ibrahimovic addmitted that the first swedish goal was with an OFF-SIDE!!! Not to sound bad and blame the referee,..... because of course lots of the blame is in us but..... the first goal with that off-side.... then the penalty he gave was such a JOKE!!!! first the swede wasnt fauled... and second... even if he was, it was OUTSIDE the penalty box, he just FELL inside!!! :nunu: that damn referee... i head he would be reviewed by a board = hope he gets PUNISHED! oh, not to mention he was supposed to send Linderoth of the swedes out ... giving him a second YELLOW card, but he DIDNT and let him stay!

Either way... most of the international critiques say that Bulgaria could continue on, while most of Bulgarians have lost hope right now... but secretly hope that what happened in '94 could be repeated..... it is left for tomorrow to be decided... if we beat Denmark wehave a chance :D ... if we do a tie.. only if sweden beats or at least ties Italy we will still have some small chances... if we loose...we will be the ones following Russia..... so...

Now that's more like it. :D

After France scored first I was just waiting for the goals to start pouring... but they didn't. Great second half by the Croats. Amazing. Worth even more considering they played so well agaist one of the true top teams in the world. Tudor's return really showed in this game.

England - Switzerland was so, so. The english didn't impress me despite the final score. That young dude, Rooney is awesome though. What Owen was some years ago.

I'm glad the Portugese won yesterday against Russia... it wouldn't be nice if the hosts went out in the first round. And besides.. I like them. :p Scollari should seriously consider replacing Figo with Christiano Ronaldo for the starting line-up. He's in the form of his life it seems
And those Greeks!! Wow... they could spoil someone's championship. I just hope they'll spoil Spain's rather then Portugals. Though I like Spain, but I still like Portugal more. Raul is the ultimate disapointment of the championship so far. I can understand now how Real Madrid didn't get any further then it did this year with Raul & Figo both not at their best.

And after that who knows what might happen with England. The France - Switzerland thing was kind of expected though the french struggled more then I thought they would with a weaker opponent. For me France is definitely not one of the top 3 teams so far.

I'm very disapointed that Porugal and England will meet in the next stage. My favourite 2 teams. :(

the quote :

"I have to say thank you to the Wimbledon Committee for the schedule, which means I can watch the game," said Ivanisevic.

Sorry crni :rose: ... but you guys are going away with GREAT play.... you should've beaten france (we know what 'basketball' goal they scored) and .... you played really well against England. And you didnt show THAT balkan syndrome that we have... so  to ya....

as for today... now Bulgaria is left as the only team WITHOUT a fcuking point and a fcuking GOAL!!! :flag: .... so if that doesnt happen today.... baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

plan is: we beat Italians!!!! and that way Sweden and Denmark continue fwd! Sweden beating Denmark of course he he! oh and thank god we have a Russian referee - i hope he wont be bad to us!!!! and push italy fwd!

and what can i say.... c'monnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Greece!!!! Time to take the French out!!! and sorry Mr M, but im going for England against you.

hopefully after today and tomorrow... Sweden will face Germany and Denmark will face Czech Rep. :D

then i say for semifinals: England - Sweden (where of course Swe crushes England) ... and Greece - Czech Rep. (where Greece crushes Czechs)

and then at the final we watch: Sweden - Greece :coctail: !!! That would be GREAT!

.. and baby... then I request when you come to bring me a swedish shirt so i can wear it while i yell for then on the 4th of July!! :gigi:

ENGLISH FAN STABBED TO DEATH
Tragedy in the celebrations of the english victory

A 28-year-old english man died yesterday morning after he was stabbed in the heart. The victim was one of the many fans who were celebrating England's victory in one of Lisbon's main streets.
"The guy had been trying to rob people here for hours", said Adrian Kavanaugh, an english man from London who witnessed the whole thing and will almost certainly be used by the portuguese police to testify against the killer. "We were sitting here having a couple of drinks and chatting, when he approached us. He took the object out of his jacket and stabbed it in my friend's chest. It was about 3 in the morning". The stab was fatal to Steven Smith's heart, who arrived already dead at the hospital.
"He was surrounding this place for several hours trying to steal people's wallets. We noticed him doing that and reported it to the police, then he left. And then he came back and, well, it was a big tragedy", Adrian told us.
The murderer is 31 year old and ucranian, illegally in Portugal, and was already under surveillance by the police, who suspected him of stealing frequently. He was grabbed by the surrounding english fans immediately, and the police undercover agents who were there arrested him immediately. Shortly after that an ambulance arrived, but Steven Smith ended up dying before arriving to the hospital.

Shit happens :none:
Some ucranian people who come here do steal a lot and sometimes even kill, like this one. But fortunately those are a very small minority, ucranian immigrants here are generally very hardworking and peaceful.

"PORTUGAL IS AS GOOD AS BRAZIL"
Eriksson talks about his opponents

England's coach Sven-Goran Eriksson revealed yesterday that expects to find the portuguese team as strong as Brazil, which kicked England out of the World Cup in 2002.

"Portugal is like Brazil. Tecnically, they're the best in Europe. They always were. Portugal has the most fantastic players in the game... Figo, Deco, Cristiano Ronaldo, Maniche, Rui Costa... they're amazing", he said.

Eriksson also affirmed he has a deep knowledge of how the portuguese team works, and announced he awaits the same team who defeated Spain last Sunday. "I think Portugal will act the same way as they did last Sunday with Spain. Their priority is to steal the ball and control the whole game. That's what they did with Spain and I don't think they will change their strategy to play against England", the english coach guaranteed.

Not to mention the fact that Deco actualy IS brazilian. With a Portugese passport.

Indeed. It'd be quite Ironic for Sven-Goran Erksson to lose against Brazil and then their European equivalent 2 years later with the same coach on the bench. Big Phil may prove to be a curse for Sven. I have that funny feeling in my bones. :p
Though I'd feel desperately sad for England if they do drop out. I guess the nightmare continues. :none:

Todays games... I don't think Sweden - Dennmark was fixed so they both could go on. Italians have all to blame on themselves. They just weren't good enough unfortunately. They should have scored against Dennmark. That was their missed oportunity, not today's game. This was just a final futile attempt to survive. Well we've gotten used to this 1st round "officialy-shocking-but-kinda-expected" eliminations from Italy. They either get very far or drop out in the early stages. Such is the Italian spirit I guess. :p

Just read on the Euro 2004 official site that Scollari is planning a change of strategy and a different 11 to start the 1st half. I guess Sven-Goran Eriksson was either bluffing or he has no idea, because it was quite obvious that Portugal is gonna addapt a more specific strategy to defeat England. Their game is much different from Spain's.

About today's games... Germany vs Czech Republic... I hope the czechs win :coctail: The subway in Lisbon was full with germans and czechs today... Also many dutch people (Netherlands - Latvia also tonight)... Didn't see almost anyone from Latvia though... I guess most of them don't have much money to travel to support their team :(

WTF! :bebebe: It sounded kinda funny how she told it though  "I was coming home from work to go to my beautiful home in one of Lisbon's most beautiful squares, and there they were, those pricks! Everybody was running away, they're awful! And tomorrow I bet they're gonna do even worse if they lose the game. Actually, even if they win. Cause when they won they also broke some chairs and windows in some pubs and threw bottles at the police on the streets! These english bastards! They don't come here for football, they come here to get red from the sun, get completely drunk, cause disturbances and ONLY THEN to see the football!" :p She was pretty hysterical, but she's right though :bum:

OK, I just read in a portuguese forum what the story is about. So, the portuguese sports paper "Record" published a small article in the "Trivia" section saying that Rooney has been eating a lot of hamburgers while in Portugal, and the newspaper wrote -as a joke, in a non offensive way- "maybe he should be called McRooney instead". Then, at some press conference, Figo was asked about Rooney and he said MANY things about him, that he was good on the field, etc, and also that he read somewhere that he liked hamburgers a lot. So THEN the brittish press at their worst style combined Figo's statement with "Record"'s joke and kind of give out the image that the whole portuguese team is making fun of Rooney calling him McRooney...  Aaaahh, stupid people :blabla:

Two reasons why Campbells "goal" didn't count....
Next time you see it on tv watch out for the following

1-John Terrys left arm is clearly preventing the Keeper from a clean jump. This may not have been intentional but it still happened. The English commentaters kept sayin "look at his eyes" A foul is a foul whether you're looking at a person or not.

2.John Terry is actually in an offside position. From what i remember a Portugese player is in the net and technically not in the field of play as he's over the line.

Absolutelly agreed!!! Terry was NOT preventing the goaly to block it ;) Ive watched it over and over... it was a very REGULAR goal... no offside either... but.... oh well, what can you do.. as you said, me as a Bulgarian is used to being fcuked up by referees :gigi:

on a second note: congrats Miguel!!! :D .. i admit i was going for England, but after second half started ... till the end of the second overtime... it was clear that England was the weaker team last night - first half they were ok, but after that Portugal smashed them! i also KNEW Beckham will miss the penalty - his face was soooooooooooooooooo damn miserable, cant believe they let him shoot first! baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.... and James... sorry, but what a joke of a goalie... of course England will loose with penalties - he CANT catch ANY!!!

I've always wondered...

Why does the UK have the right to several teams in international competitions? Why isn't it a national UK team instead of England, Scotland or Wales? I mean, all other countries have national teams and i don't think they have the right to send regional teams to an international competition, so why does the UK have that right?
The UK has a national team for the Olympics for example, so why not in football? *ponders*
Because we do right!! :p
Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland all have their own parliaments....Scotland a region of England indeed :bebebe:
Oh and another thing...MOST Scottish people would rather be skinned alive by a rusty potato peeler than support what would no doubt be a predominantly English team.
To think of myself shouting support at David Beckham... :ill:
A U.K team would be very poorly supported.
If you even suggested that on any Scottish,English or Welsh message board you'd be shot down in flames.
I think i'll have to go and lie down...i'm going into shock..U.K. Team indeed.
Incidentally when any Scottish Person wins at something they mysteriously turn British in the English medias eyes..they lose they're Scottish diddies....By the way remember all the ENGLISH fans causing trouble in Portugal?
The English papers called them "British" fans :blabla:

Some more funnies here....
