In YSSU, they sing "Mne nuzhna ana", but I read somewhere that whenever the thing being needed is a pronoun, you state it first in the sentence, like this: "Ana mne nuzhna". Is this just a general rule, an old rule, or was I misinformed? Or was the song in all technical terms grammatically incorrect?

Sorry, just perfecting my Russian and whenever I come across some rule and then Russians doing something diff I get confused. I have been told by a Russian friend of mine that Russians do not pay much attention to grammar.... but then again I think he may have been joking, lol. Thanks

Bitty, good question :) The song is not incorrect. In general Russian word order is pretty flexible; "ona mne nuzhna" is a more neutral/standard way of saying "I need her" - "mne nuzhna ona" is OK though. It's a question of stylistics more than of grammar.

That's how I understand it, although I'm not Russian.

Yes, you are pretty much right on russkayatatu. They are both right technically, though you will probably hear "ona mne nuzhna" more commonly.
