its not for that. From what I see its to mark octave, so you dont have to think about it while singing live.

The video is a little tacky, however I like what she's doing with the music, even the rubbish song she covered was an interesting touch with a proper accoustic band and her voice is always beautiful but we get to listen to a different, more mature side of her voice; she don't have to hit those high notes all the time.

Pleasantly surprised so far, hope her album is a little more diverse than the leading single, I liked Stay perhaps slightly better because of the electronic elements.

"Deer in the Headlights" is an awesome cover and compliments her voice - they should do more stuff like that with natural instruments, tell Sven Martin that's proper music!

I think the chorus sounded kinda not cool... Like she was trying too much. The arrangement, however, was a very pleasant surprise. She's fine, too, but I think she can do better! Being more natural coulda helped her in this one, but it's still a nice work! The only one of the RawSessions I didn't WOWed about, however. lol

I just listened Tic-Toc fully and the sounds reminded me of Lady Gaga's recent album- which I'm not entirely fund of- . If it was on that album, the world wuold know about this song. But Lena and Belonova sings it. Bad for the song that has less popular performers:) And this is so not Lena.

I just said it reminded me somehow. I didn't mean that they copied her or anything like that. I also like the song but Lena's solo singing part is not so pleasant to me. Other parts of Lena are ok. The Belonova girl sings her singing part with passion when Lena sings it like she's gonna go to bed in a minute. Don't know if they did it intentionally.

How different are the fan meeting in Rusia and Latinamerica. They (Julia and Lena) are stars here.
Once in a decade vs. every year meeting. Makes a bit of a difference. The Russian fans know them already TOO personally, the pedestal therefore is gone. On the other hand Latinamericans are more passionate (I know - prejudice! ;) ). If I were a star I would not struggle in Mickey Mouse land, if I just had to jump beyond the border in the south to find dedicated fans all over the country, and from there to a whole continent with people not so different from Mexicans.

Well, IMO Lena sings it much better than the girl and her additional backings are outstanding, really dreamy! ;)

And about the Lady Gaga thing, well, it just annoys me; it always needs to be her. She's not even original, she's just a thousand of random, boring elements all over the place. pfff
Oh, of course, she can sing, but I'd rather get me some Adele if we're talking mainstream.

And of course I also want LENA to be popular, but saying a song she sings could be more popular if sang by another act is just ludicrous to me.

Thanks for all the videos!
It is interesting to see Lena address the issues of beauty and her physical reputation during her teen years. Yulia's like 5'1 and is naturally super thin - she'll make anyone look bigger in comparison. Lena's not much taller herself but I think she's a nice shape. To quote Lena herself, "and my ass is bigger!!!"

I'm very glad to say that in the over 11 years of Lena's career, there hasn't been one moment where she looked terrifyingly and unhealthily thin or shockingly lost a lot. Her weight has fluctuated to different ends of the spectrum, sure, but nothing major. There was that brief phase where she did gain some back in 09 I think, but she's definitely lost that.
Lena's gotten super pretty over the years without anything too drastic. I really could say the exact same for Yulia if she'd just officially leave the lips alone. D:

The Motel Diablito interview is hilarious. Definite must watch. I missed seeing Tatu girls on talk shows!

Lena's really cute in these videos. Not much about her has changed.That's very true. I think Lena was a much more mature person early on. She knew who she was and what she wants, and so when things changed a lot around her, she didn't. She seems to be the same person, doing what she likes to do and being who she likes to be. The same story doesn't seem to be true for Yulia. She might be doing what she likes and she might be who she likes to be now, but she certainly doesn't have the same aura of confidence and maturity as Lena has. Not then, not now. I think that's why I haven't bothered keeping myself updated on Yulia after the split.

Lena seems to be doing something right, step by step. I look forward to her future :)

Well, what you guys say is all very true!

I've been listening to Lena over and over lately and it never gets boring! I'm happy with the level of floating creativity around her recent tracks, live and studio ones. Stay and NF are amazing, DITH and MS are fresh and unique. Tic-Toc is pure bliss! Her vocals are such a gift to the track... Haha, I'm just getting more and more excited for her debut album. I'm sure it's gonna be worth the looooooooong wait!!! :coctail::coctail::coctail:

The same game as in the WM era. Testing the endurance of the fans to decide what music they want. I thought artists make their OWN music and then let the audience decide if they like it or not. I see the time coming when the album is released and we have then 0-1 unknown songs on it.

Some reason, I get the feeling they did everything all at once. All the pictures we've seen of Belanova & Lena are of scenes in the music video. Like Lena and Belanova were only together for a few days. I'm almost sure they recorded Lena's vocals, music video, and the live chat in one day since they're wearing the same clothes. They had a camera man record everything they did together to spice together the music video. :gigi:

Hot Secrets Interview

During the original casting, Lena said it was a casting not for t.A.T.u., but for a project Ivan had thought up against the war in Ukraine. He had an idea to cast a young girl to sing a song against the war. He picked lena and she recorded "Yugoslavia". He went to Renski and asked him to be the sponsor for this project. Renski suggested making a full scale musical project from this, then Yulia was cast and etc.

Lena said Ivan had her sing with some sort of plug in her mouth to articulate her words better.

She said she has many songs, more than enough for a single album. They are trying to pick the right record company to release the CD. Concerts are being planned and if everything goes according to plan the concerts will be soon in Mexico. The interviewer asked what about concerts in Russia and Lena said "no one has invited me, when they invite me there will be concerts"

Lena said the level of comfort in the USA is greater than in Russia. Her home is still Russia, however. She spends 3 months in the USA and 1 month in Russia.

She lives with her bf. She met him 9 years ago, he is from Slovenia. He was friends with t.A.T.u.'s musicians. she met him in a bar when they went out with the musicians. They have lived together for a year and a half.
She wants to have his children.

At the end she said to love yourself and to do what you want and to believe in yourself. She wished everyone the best and said to cherish what you have.

Belanova's never really been one for making interesting videos. But at least Lena looks as good as she always does!

I had no idea her relationship with her bf was that serious. 9 years? Sounds like they met way back when tATu was just starting to go huge. Still, I have to say I am happy for her! (I just wish she would have MY children... no, I'm not sure how that would work, I'm just saying that's the way I would want it.)

t.A.T.u. revealed its parting almost 3 years ago, and we did not her anything about you. Why?
It's just that I left for America and began working on my solo project. We looked for a style for a long time. Then the guys, our t.A.T.u. musicians, began to insist that participated in the song writing process, from which the songs would be more personal. Actually, when I arrived in America and they asked me, "Well, what would you like to sing about?", I was in shock. I sat there and did not now how to answer. Because, on one hand, I have very many themes which I could show, and on the other, I simply do not know from where to start. Yulia and I never wrote our own songs, they brought them to us and said, "Girls, here are 10 songs". We listened to them, "Well, this one won't work, this one is complete trash, this one is not bad, this one we could try, and this one is super, let's record it." But here it turns out I am a co-author. And I had a process of inhibition, that had to do, maybe, with the depression that came with t.A.T.u. ending.

Hold on, why was it even necessary to end t.A.T.u.?
Because it was jut imposible to work together any longer. I do not want to air our dirty laundry. But everyone had their own moments, their own reasons, and yes, we were tired of Yulia. A sort of mental numbness, a "stupor" occurred, and we did not fully understand how to move forward. And to remain on the same level, it was degrading. And at some moment us and our manager Boris Renski got together in the office and together said, that's it, end of story, the end.

Was it scary when there was no more t.A.T.u.?
Yes, almost right away. The psychologist to whom I turned to told me I could not cope with this alone because I just did not know what to do after this. I stopped sleeping, eating, walked around in gray clothes, all gloomy. My poor mom observed all this and was worried, suggested different ideas and options. I could not get out of this state.

I have the same story, I am also a psychologist, but not for myself
Yes. I was so emotional from all this that I thought, "That's it, it's the end!" but decided to call a friend and find out about specialists. And eventually after a few meetings the psychologist began to remove my depressed state, the most important- my dependance on Yulia. I was very dependent on her and could not imagine myself as single and independent. My heart skips when I think of myself alone on stage.It is true that now when I come out on stage alone I cannot say I am 100% comfortable. I think it is a question of time. Yulia was always more active than I. On stage and in life. But I gained confidence in myself. And then Boris Renski called and offered my own solo project.

Wait, I heard about your bank accounts where there are still royalties coming in from song rotations in the West. Wasn't it possible to just sit and spend the money you had made in previous years?
Well, first of all, there is a genius saying "Money begins to run out when it ceases to start. And this is why I cannot sit at home and do nothing. This is not my plan or style. I have to implement myself, to sing, this is what I know how to do in life and have loved since I was a child. And I sing always, at home, in the shower, in the car, I listen to music and sing along. If music is not playing, I walk around the apartment and sing to myself. I want to express myself and beging a solo career, this was the single correct decision.

Do you talk to Yulia often?
Now very little. I was trying to wish her a happy brithday. I was in American and she was in Moscow, but Yulia changes her phone like she changes her gloves. It seems that her number has changed and I did not have the new one. I could not get through, but sent her a text message, and then someone said to me that Yulia was surprised that I did not wish her a happy birthday. Honestly, we got tired from each other after all these years, that it is healthy if we do not contact each other. And her and I have absolutely different company. In the beginning we spent a lot of time with each other, but then our personal lives drifted us apart. Imagine when you live together all the time, tours occupy a big part of your life, you become like family. So when we would fly to Moscow, we wanted to take a break from each other. "Volkova who? No, I'll see her in a week. And she shouldn't call me".

Why should it be scary? Logically, if something died that means it was meant to die. There is also an interesting version of the argument, that this is a beginning of my new life, in which, scenically, there is no more Yulia. Respectively, I said goodbye to my past, which I wil never forget. And this is the truth. That Lena Katina- the member of t.A.T.u., is no longer, although there is Lena Katina- the solo artist. In fact, after all this time I changed and became a different individual. I am no longer that girl that began to sing in t.A.T.u., I am not 14, I am 26 and starting a new life.

What are the chances of Lena Katina coming to the West? Do you think anyone remembers you there?

The criticism isn't so wrong, Lena's voice is really quite flat. She had hard times concentrating on the lyrics and it was just a fun experiment after all, nothing serious. So definitely not necessary to bite her in the calf.

Well, I expected her to do great, 'cause I know she can. The Never Forget performance was bad. Period. She can't afford to make such mistakes and we ALL know she can do SO much better than that. The girl can sing t.A.T.u. songs better than ever now, but can't perform her freaking debut solo single? I mean, come on.

In fact, NF is not a song that can be performed the way it was done.
Yes, it sounded weird and Lena didn't know how to move. You need musicians, multiples spotlights, energy. And not some "alone singer on the stage". So it was clearly a bad choice.
I don't like Tic Toc song globally but i think she did not bad.
I am not a fan of too much falsetto.

Lost in love was very good.
And it was great to see her playing the piano.

But the main important thing is that it was COMPLETELY live. Which is great !

Regarding Belanova and the performance at the big ceremony, she is clearly not a live singer. Better staying on the studio.

Well if anyone was wondering why that got cut from the TV broadcast....

Denise was dire at the start - what was with the sudden silence followed by her fiddling with her earpiece at the start - did they have a technical mishap?

She looked absolutely terrified and really uncomfortable up there, like she was having to concentrate to remember the words, I have to wonder if she had ever tried to sing live like that before?

Lena did much better, held the tune and looked like she had some idea what was going on, and she even tried to interact with the audience a little. Not 100% she is simply not a A-class stage performer (and maybe never will be) but next to Denise, she looked like a polished professional.

The difference is really obvious around 2:15 - 2:25 where Lena is smiling, moving about and singing away whilst Denise is back to scowling and fiddling with the earpiece. And Lena seemed like she was caught between singing in tune with the band and in tune with Denise.

Lena did passably well, though she was struggling a bit with her lower register, ideally could have done with lifting the key of the song a little, but I guess she had to make the best of what she was given to work with.

Most probably. She was trying desperately to get the plug as close as possible onto the ear-drum to catch at least a bit of sound. Such incidents often make singers sound as if they can't sing at all. Bad fortune. The appearance wasn't so unimportant for both of them, I guess.

UPDATE: About the FanKix presentation

WOW! Lena was great... As in REALLY awesome! Waiting was clearly the highlight, it sure needs to be a single 'cause Lena rocks it live -- which is clearly not true for Never Forget. It was the only song she could not sing properly, even though it was quite better than the previous performances. She did amazing on all the others, though.

I'm happy to see she can hold herself on stage! It's finally a proof against people who say "you think she can sing cause the quality of the recording is poor"... :D

I just watched the streaming of her concert... I am genuinely impressed with her! I enjoyed it and I loved the new songs and her singing and stage presence was really nice.

Her voice is cute on Keep On Breathing, and I agree it's a nice concept. The sound is new for Lena, so it's nice to hear something different, even if it's not a sound I listen to very often. I just think the lyrics are kinda cliche. :p

I'm in love with "The Beast" (the new version of "So Not Cool) I don't know, some reason I don't remember ever hearing it before even though she performed it last year and I loved it so much when she performed it today. Maybe I was originally turned off by the recording quality of her past performances which is why I don't remember it. Anyway, It just has a really cool sound to it though that I like in songs. :p There's a band I haven't listened to in ages called Birthday Massacre, but something about "The Beast" reminds me of the songs I listened to from them. That dark electric & rock style or something

The FanKix performance is exactly what I wanted to see. On top of Lena releasing music that is (in my opinion) good music, she's finally got more of an attitude to go along with it. On top of that I really love the fact that she's showcasing some of her musical talent on stage by playing the piano. It's great to see Lena taking herself seriously. Hopefully the project stays on the road it is on and is able to keep following through with things, because my interest has peaked to an all time high for Lena Katina.

I'm really looking forward to a HQ version of "The Beast" - it's fantastic.

Also, Waiting was flawless, absolutely loved every minute of it. Along with Stay. And of course, finally. IRS in good quality! A new favorite.

I was not really interested in her project and didn't really like any of the songs, but after watching the FanKix performance I completely changed my mind. I think it's because I never heard the songs in good quality because all we had was crappy recordings by fans and the only song that we had in studio quality was Never Forget, but that song is just ok (and I never even bothered to give "Stay" a listen).

I think she did an amazing job and totally changed my mind about her solo project, I really want her to release a CD now. I never watched any of her other performances, but I watched the FanKix concert 4 times already.

Of course, Lena is not so really the stage person, but on her last performance she showed a lot more than we used to see from her. There was some lack of confidence in her actions, but this way to express herself on stage is rather new to her, and she improved considerably in that respect. Rather sooner than later you won't notice much difference to a 'naturally born' stage person.

Yulya on the other hand is a stage person, but couldn't show her talents, because her vocal abilities (at least in the last performance) are at the lowest in her career as a singer. She incorporated the tatu repertoire only recently and wasn't well trained for this either and she probably had not enough time for preparing a good show. Consequently her self confidence was very limited from the beginning. It was still too early for her, but the competition with Lena forces her to act and show herself. What she has to do: stand up again and fight - hopefully with more professional engagement than in the last wasted years.

I love the Xmas video from Lena, she's so sweet! But, I mean, really!!! Such a snowy and cute video, the whole atmosphere is just... Awesome! Short but amazing, I loved it.

On another note, I see people really going on her about the presentation -- I'm glad everybody liked it, I really did too... But, for me, her best performance EVER was the Troubadour one. She was so free at the stage, flowing naturally, very confident and singing flawlessly! And there ARE good recordings of that. I still hope for the day she'll outcome that performance... Whatever she took before she hit the stage -- fill her up with that in the new year! :coctail:

I get what you mean, but for me a good stage person (controlling on vocal abilities etc) has to have charisma and this can be presented in many ways. Lena being a little fragile , shy etc. does it for me while Yulia not. This is, in contrary to being a good singer, totally subjective. Its no fact that madonna is a great stage persona while whacko jacko is not. Many people would differ in opinions and they would have their own perspective and valid arguments for it.

edit: when thinking of it more I changed my look a bit.. I think being a stage person is not independent from talent/skills. Therefore imo, yes ... Lena would probably be worse than Yulia if she was as crappy as Yulia in her vocals

Dave Aude's remixes of Never Forget has been released on iTunes. I sampled them. I rarely care for remixes but they're nice.

So apparently Lena rerecorded new vocals for the remixes? I mean I like hearing new vocals and all but why couldn't Dave Aude just use the original acapellas? :p

I KNEW IT! Lena's vocals in the remix are just worst... The "gone" in the chorus is too pitchy, OMG. I don't know what happens to her, she can sing so great sometimes -- but then such sad things happen. Her original vocals for the song are flawless, IMO.

I don't like the remixes, either; Never Forget has many better remixes by fans... I believe Dave could (and SHOULD!) have done a much better job (I love his ATTSS remix, really), so it figures.

I'm glad the song charted @ Billboard, though! Maybe it'll climb to the top 25, who knows. Nice exposure. :)

Yeah, her vocals on the remix sound weaker and girlier... I don't get it, it's like they tried to make her sing the same way as she did in the original but she's not as powerful as the original. Therefore I don't get the point of rerecording the vocals. Do they not have access to individual tracks of the original acapellas? o_o
I'd understand if they re-did her vocals so she could sing in completely different ways to suit different styles of remixes, but that doesn't seem like the case here.

I do prefer the original song in general of course :p His remixes are nothing I want to buy but they're fun I suppose. I just never care for remixes much in general.

Of course Aude got the vocals from the original version, the thing is sometimes, when you speed up vocals for remixes, they sound a little bit "funny" (?), Only few DJs try to fix the time streching to make the vox sound "natural", but others just don't care about, it sounds pretty bad IMO even if the musical production is good. That's why (as Lena says on the video) they re-recorded the vocals, to make it sound more "natural". Of course it doesn't sound as good as the original version but it doesn't sound that bad either.

Never Forget (Dave Audé Vs Thomas Gold. BOOT 1) 7:03

It's a mashup with Thomas Gold's "Sing2Me" which is the current #1 on beatport. Really only uses the chorus in the builds and a couple more samples. Vocals had to be pitched down a semitone for it to work.

Not really.

Billboard has a selected group of DJs that work as "reporters". In theory, that group represent the Club scene of the country, so that #1 on Billboard DANCE/CLUB chart means the remix of NF is the most played song on clubs. Of course that's subjetive cuz it doesn't really mean that ALL the DJs around USA are playing the song all nights, but at least it will make that ppl that don't know about new Lena solo career pay attention about her music project.

I'm so proud of Lena lately :D

Her remix get's charted on #1, her new duet is releasing soon, Never Forget gets radio play in Canada, she re-records Never Forget in Spanish, she does this duet with Vassy... I mean compared to the later days of Tatu, it seems like she's doing a lot even if it's not so so much haha. But really, I'll be extremely happy the day she finally releases an album.

The Fly On The Wall performance was nice. Vassy has a really nice voice. It's just that typical issue with Lena where she kinda has trouble doing lower notes live and then she get's pitchy when she switches from the low notes to higher notes in the same line.

This is so not true! I love Trance Gemini :) (I guess only insiders know what I'm talking about... :D ). Ok, trance music - if you define it as music, which you hear the first time, but you know the whole song after the first 20 seconds, then you are right. But the same goes for any other genre as well. If it's predictable from the first two measures then it's booooo....

Vicente, I don't know if it helps, but you can download a pretty dull audio from Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc7CBqiyJlc). Probably the HQ version isn't any better! :gigi: (and I won't recheck it even under the threat of death :bum: )

So, now that the half-hearted rock-pop music didn't work as much as she expected, Lena is willing to punish us with club sounds. Gay people love to polish the dance floor after all (so predictable the minds of the business 'professionals' around her :rolleyes: ). For guys who looked for a partner without success for more than 30 years and spend the whole evening in an oldies disco hanging their hands desperately around the neck of any two-legged creature, this song is probably the right one, but even then: my credo is "Hardrock for the Grannies" (they are half deaf after all!! :D )
