South Dakota passed a law banning most abortions including with those pregnancies which were a result of incest or rape. South Dakota thus directly challenges Supreme Court's ruling declaring abortions legal. Praise the Lord!

CNN. Bringing you coverage of the stupid things people do since 1980. (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/06/sd.abortion/index.html)

God, that's just awful. Abortions should be allowed at all times. They keep complaining about teenage moms and what not, but helloooo.

I can't even imagine what it must be like for a female to be raped, getting pregnant, and then having to give birth to the child of her rapist! Not only because of how it happened, but also because she isn't necessarily financially stable, or emotionally ready. She might have big plans but her life is suddenly "ruined" because she gives birth - after being raped. I can't even imagine what a terrible situation that is.

I really dislike that law, especially since in the US it seems to be about religion (okay, it might not be, but I just get that impression).

Abortions for all!

...a result of rape.I'm sorry but my hate of America grows more and more every day. :bum: How can they do that?!! Imagine a poor 12 year old girl who gives birth due to being raped and then being reminded every day by the baby what happened to her. SICK.

The girls only save-point is that she can still give the kid up for adoption, although i don't believe any 12 year old should be pregnant at all, i'm sure there are some health risks that would even force S. Dakotian law because abortions are still legal if the mother's overall health is at risk. There's a part of me that really dislikes this, but at least we know it's JUST S. Dakota... it's just a car ride to N. Dakota or Minnesota where they could get the proceedure done, because they made it illegal for doctors ... not mothers.

Do people actually think that abortions will stop if they are made illegal. Hello, coat hangers, anybody! The worst that could happen; women dieing from illegal abortions performed by boyfriends or people in the black market.
Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Though thegurgi's right, it is only happening in S. Dakota (and since it oppose the federal court ruling, it'll likely be squashed... hopefully) this sentiment pretty much mirrors what is happening throughout the rest of the country. So many pharmacists are refusing to refill any prescriptions for birth control pills since it contradicts with their beliefs. I cannot fucking believe these assholes haven't been fired yet for not doing their fucking job! Can a pharmacist also refuse to refill prescriptions for Viagra because it is unnatural? I didn't think so.

They succeeded with Gays, now it's Women and illegal immigrants (Mexicans), next; Jews and Blacks.

Absurdity, beliefs have no place in a pharmacy. Anywhere in Europe, a pharmacist who would refuse to give a patient the medications they've been prescribed would be stripped from their licence.
Birth control pills are free or almost free anyway, you can easily get them in many places, even schoolgirls can simply get them from their school's infirmary.A pharmacist can refuse to serve the morning after pill here as far as I know...

People will be running to Mexico or to the nearest more liberal state to get an abortion. What now? South Dakota is suffering from the stagnation in the population growth?

USA is a country of contrasts, indeed.

Yes, well put! We are a nation of contrasts, meaning we are not all stupid anti-abortion rednecks here (I don't know if that's what you meant, but that's what I'm saying). I'm extremely upset about this decision because even though that's only 1/50 states - which state is next?
