Universal Japan have announced that the group Juemilia (never 'eard of 'em, but they seem to be 2 teenage girls, surprise surprise) will release a Japanese version of ATTSS on May 28th. Audio extract available here: http://www.universal-music.co.jp/juemilia/index_main2.html

It's, ummm... interesting. Not as bad as Hiromi Go's version of Livin' La Vida Loca, mind ;) Apparently it's the duo's first attempt at songwriting (they've had one single out already, it seems).

To be honest, i think it's fair to say that it's Tatu that borrowed the uniform thing to the Japanese in the first place.
In the ATTSS video they really look like two anime characters.

There's one or two images on the web of them actually depicted manga-style. Prefer the real thing, myself ;)

:cool: I'll keep an eye out (if I remember) for full versions, but as they're a relatively new group, there's still not an awful lot of info about them, as far as I could tell from a Yahoo.jp search. Certainly, if I find the lyrics, I'll try and translate them - they definitely aren't a straight translation of the English. All else failing, I'm sure it'll turn up at karaoke sooner or later. ATTSS is already there, and I do enjoy murdering that ;)

Not as far as I can gather. I think it's just a straight copy of a similar tatu pose.

Ummm...I guess. Probably less controversial than Madge, though.

I'm not much of a j-pop fan these days (used to be keen when I was a student here in the mid-90s), so all these girly singers tend to blend into one as far as I'm concerned. Must be getting old or something :p

Human nature, m'dear.

At least it's acknowledged to be a cover, rather than just ripping off the melody in certain parts. When I came back out here in 1998, there was a song that drove me demented, because it had ripped off big chunks of "Torn" (Natalie Imbruglia), but was posing as an original melody.

Well they sound ummmm, Okay...

But NOW WHERE close to Lena and Yulia, ATTSS/YSSUM (Did I get the intials right?) seems to be constructed for their voices, and when anyone else sings it... It's just not as magical.

But yes it is very cool that Yulia and Lena are being covered and it's being acknowaldge as a cover.

Also if stars like Britney Spears have 4 or 5 tribute albums... then the girls should have at least 7-8...

That was funny AND SCARY, i liked when they went into japanese. why oh why couldn't they have translated the chorus!! I want that Karaoke version of it. What was scary was i actually picked out some words from my very limited Japanese vocabulary.

In a lot of cases (but definitely not all) Japanese people go to English conversation classes (having done 6 years of English at school) without their pronunciation improving one iota. Those who have a good accent have generally spent time living in an English-speaking country.

However, I think it's a bit unfair to criticise these girls, particularly given that the single's aimed exclusively at the Japanese market. How many of us achieve amazing pronunciation in our second languages through just learning them at school for a couple of hours a week, mostly taught by a non-native speaker? I certainly don't know that many native English speakers with fantastic Japanese pronunciation, and there are no sounds in Japanese that don't occur in English.

Anyway, that's just my feeling on the matter.

I think if they wanna sing in English, they should have their English pronoucication correct and at least good (not very good). If they cannot do so, they should not sing in English. That's nothing to do with whether native or non-native speakers teaching English.

Julia also doesn't know English, but she can pronounce well. It's professional.

Of course, everybody has their own opinion.:)

I agree with ya :) I am 1/4 japanese, and while I took a year of Japanese courses at Uni, I was very fortunate to have my grandma (full japanese) to help with the pronounciation. But even with her help, I understood that I could NEVER sound like a NATIVE speaker. I came pretty close though ;) And the same goes with my grandma -- even though she's lived 45+ years in a US/english-speaking place, she still does not sound like the rest of us in the family. She still has her japanese accent :)

So, I don't mind how these girls are singing the song...it sounds fine to me. Also -- I really like their version of it. Of course, they're no Yulia and Lena -- but, the sound/beat is very representative of the J-POP sound -- which I like very much :D

Have just watched the Juemilia vid. Alas, they're not nearly as sexy as Y and L, but then I'm not much into Japanese women :)

I really think it is too soon to be making cover versions... it seems disrespectful to the original artist to redo it before theirs has even left the charts. Like saying "that was good be we can do it sooo much better" , though they clearly can't.

I have a pretty good copy of the song, but my japanese isnt good enough to pick up all the syllables.

I hear a few daisuki and stuff. Im still not used to hearing japanese people say L's--its crazy--I wish I could say my L's like that its so interesting.

They kind of sound like they dont mean what there singing so its hard to get into the song.
